Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Gratitude & Appreciation: Heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the good work undertaken by • Teachers • Education Coordinators • Regional Education coordinators • Administrators • Teacher Trainers & • Anyone else actively involved in SSE

  3. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Statistics: • 540 children under 16 attending SSE classes • There are 114 children under 16 who are not attending SSE classes.

Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Classes & Attendance: • All Regions in Australia have submitted their progress reports • Attendance for Groups 1 & 2 is regular and satisfactory • Groups 3 & 4 is irregular as the study and other activity commitments seem to take precedence over SSE • Teacher Training and Refresher courses continuing currently

  5. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Interesting Programs: • Western Australia organised SSE Spiritual camp for 3 days over Easter • 40 children attended • 6 SSE teachers, youth and parents have volunteered to run the camp • Theme was “Nature & Us”

  6. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Interesting Programs: • South East QLD Zone B • Unity of Faiths promotion • Visits to various religious worship places like Sikh Temple, Mosque, Buddhist Temple, Church and a Hindu Temple

Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Interesting Programs: NSW West Region • Easwaramma Day celebrations included 3 min talks by Group 4 children on topics like • “Is spiritual transformation more important than scientific advancement” • “Is spiritual transformation necessary for young adults”

Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Innovative Ideas: • Online lessons delivered via email is being trailed by Newcastle centre • Extensive database of students as well as teachers and parents accessing these lessons • Need to explore the possibility of this for Group 4 especially given their time constraints for attendance

  9. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Innovative Ideas: South East QLD Region: • Over school holidays (4 times a year) one evening is allocated for Children leading bhajans at Centre levels • Self audit diaries for children and parents

  10. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Innovative Ideas: • Lesson plan networking • NSW West - • Group Brain storming on syllabus • Prepare mind maps for distribution • South East Qld – • Lesson plans prepared for distribution to other centres

Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Education Week Celebrations: • All regions embracing this with enthusiasm • VIC West region - Whole month of August as Education Month • NSW West Region organised • A “Painting/Game” day for the children • a day’s program of workshops and talks on Human Values for Adults

Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Education Week Celebrations: • South East Qld • Organised activities from July as a build up to Education Week. • Theme of “Self-Discovery” is promoted • Big Regional Event “Celebrating the Education Week” on 16th August • Posters by children on Human Values to be displayed in the Public Library

Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 • Overall extremely satisfactory progress throughout Australia • Active participation by all concerned • Implementation of a nationally uniform syllabus for Groups 1 & 2 • Trailing of National Syllabus for Group 3 and Pilot studies of Group 4 • Innovative ideas tried by enthusiastic and passionate adults involved in SSE • Increased understanding of Sathya Sai Education System

  15. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Challenges to address: • Group 4 • No uniform teaching methods • Syllabus not followed by everyone • Unsure & Untrained teachers doing their best currently • Erratic attendance

  16. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Challenges to address: • Reporting • From Centres to Regional Coordinators seems to be an issue in some Regions • Standard reporting procedures so it becomes easy to report periodically

  17. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE)Progress Report – 2009 Future Plan: • Website as a major resource for teachers and parents • Evaluation of Group 4 Pilot program • New Teacher Training Course • Explore the possibility of using Skype technology for Group 4 lesson delivery
