  3. History • The top layer is about 8000 years old • Sea-level has changed. • The Australians Aborigines have lived in the area for 40 000 years. • James Cook exlpored the Sea

  4. Pollution • Pollution and degradation of water. • The quality of water has deteriorated in recent years. • Deteriorated water  algae blooming. • April 2010 a Chinese ship had tried to take a shortcut across the reefs. The ship leaked oil that damaged the rare corals.

  5. Ecology • Around1625 fishingarts • Close to 330 arts ofsquirt. • 5 000 mollusks documentedin the reef. • Clownfish, Red bass, Red-throat and Minkewhale. • Around 22 º - 28 º
