The combination of bacteria and food causes tooth decay. • Aclear, sticky substance called plaque forms on your teeth and gums • Plague contains bacteria • As the bacteria feed on the sugars in the food you eat, they make acids • These acids attack the teeth within 20mins • Over some time the acids will destroy the tooth enamels causing tooth decay

  3. Stages of tooth decay Stage 1- When we eat sugar and starch, plaque produces acid which attacks teeth.

  4. Stage 2- Cavity (hole) develops and the acid attacks the dentine

  5. Stage 3- Bacteria attacks nerves and blood vessels from soft pulp

  6. Stage 4- Root and socket become infected
