3. So far... • We have done a rhyming list poem – Ten .......... • We have done an acrostic poem – hidden message in first letter. Let’s hear some of them before we begin.

5. Today • We’re going to go over two examples of non-rhyming list poetry. • You’re going to try. • We’re going to go over a rhyming list poem. • I’m going to give you a method of finding rhymes. • You’re going to try.

6. To begin with, A non-rhyming list poem

When my teacher tells me to write a poem. • When my mother tells me to clean up my room. • When my sister practices her violin while I'm watching TV. • When my father tells me to turn off the TV and do my homework. • When my brother picks a fight with me and I have to go to bed early. • When my teacher asks me to get up in front of the class and read the poem I wrote on the school bus. 8. Did you notice? • The poet named several people – family members. • The poet named several activities – writing, cleaning, watching, doing, going and reading.

9. He or she used: • A noun • A person, place or thing. • A verb • An action word.

10. Ellen made a pyramid out of gum. • Cian “accidentally” dropped a heavy book on the ground. • Colin thought about being a movie star all day. • Katryna stared at the person sitting across from her. • Jack made funny faces. • Kelly drew faces on a copy. Whatnot to do.

12. The subject, group or nouns • Think of five people. They don’t have to have names. Maybe you want to call them by their title or job – family members, subject teachers, football players or teams. • Maybe you want to name celebrities or characters from books, movies or songs. • 5 people (who are linked) • The name of this group is your title.

13. The actions, activities or verbs. • Think of five verbs, five actions. Each action will be used by one of the people you just picked. • 5 verbs • What are they doing?

17. Help with rhyming • Think of a word – “word” • Remove the first letter – “ord” • Add in letters until something familiar comes up. • Sound it out. Aord, bord... Bird

18. Examples • Money – oney – abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz • Bunny • Funny • Honey • Runny • Sunny

19. The subject, group or nouns • Choose a subject – Eight nouns for your list. Consider people, places, things, animals, any eight things you can group together. • Consider footballers or teams, music artists or television characters. • 8 nouns • That subject is your title.

22. Now • Think of a word that goes with your first and second noun and write it down. Then try to find something that rhymes with it. • If its an object – “A (noun) with an x” • If its a job - “A (noun) that is (that’s) an x”. • That has, wants, likes.
