  3. Context TheMedAvailMedCenter™, is an ATM sized system that combines robotics, audio-/video conferencing, secure data networks, and proprietary pick-and-pack technology to enable a Pharmacist to consult with and dispense medication to a patient remotely. The solution provides pharmacy customer with the technology to deliver or extend service (in terms of reach and/or hours of operation) or provide consultation and delivery capability where none exists. This is a revolutionizing but potentially disruptive technology that will fundamentally transform pharma dispensing………

  4. Challenges and Successes • Commercializing this technology is not an easy task, due to the complex nature of the Canadian and international regulatory environment in terms of security, privacy, payments and pharmacy regulations. • Technology innovation could be viewed as “too new” to use, not secure enough or not reliable by potential clients/patients. • MedAvail has worked with it’s customers to help them coordinate regulatory review with governments worldwide in order to prepare the necessary legislation and regulations to enable the use of MedCentres. • The lack of consistency in the regulatory and legal requirements within North America and Internationally creates challenges in determining how to best comply with, and demonstrate compliance, with relevant Laws.

  5. Teaming together….. • To define and develop an integrated compliance framework including ISO, HIPAA, Privacy and PCI requirements, and a roadmap to achieve and maintain compliance, • To define an Enterprise Security Architecture to ensure that security, privacy and PCI requirements are integrated into the design and build of the new technology solution, application and communication channels, and • To define and mature the security and compliance organization and position for success

  6. Lessons learned • Focusing early on integration of regulatory requirements into the design and built of the solution will ensure that: • the services are delivered in a secure manner , • customer and investor compliance requirements are addressed and • reputational risk for the enterprise and solution is managed • Technology innovation could revolutionize the way pharmaceutical services are delivered to patients and extend the reach to remote locations provided viewed as secure and reliable by clients and patients
