  2. Three Simple Questions Gen 3:8-13 ESV And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. (9) But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, "Where are you?" (10) And he said, "I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself." (11) He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" (12) The man said, "The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate." (13) Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" 6. Didn’t God Know? • Three simple questions with deeper implications • Where are you? • Who told you that you were naked? • What is this that you have done? • Momentous point in human history • Significant questions, questions for us! • Questions for self-examination • Let’s take them in reverse order

  7. What is this you have done? • Reminds me of “What were you thinking!” • Implies responsibility and accountability for ones actions • Society avoids this question, a “Its not my fault” mindset. • Over the past year, “What is this you have done?” individually?, collectively?

  8. Who told you that you were naked? • Who are you listening to? • Adam listened to Eve, Eve listened to Satan • This is the definition of “authority” • Do these “words” carry weight in your life?

  9. Who are you listening to? John 5:24-29 ESV Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (25) "Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. (26) For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. (27) And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. (28) Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice (29) and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

  10. Who are you listening to? Luke 10:25-37 ESV And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (26) He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How do you read it?" (27) And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." (28) And he said to him, "You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live." (29) But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" (30) Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. (31) Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. (32) So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. (33) But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. (34) He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. (35) And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' (36) Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" (37) He said, "The one who showed him mercy." And Jesus said to him, "You go, and do likewise."

  11. Where are You? • Where are you spiritually? • Are you trying to “hide” from God like Adam and Eve • Are you “running” from God like Jonah? • Are you questioning God like Habakkuk? • Are you where you want to be? If not, why not?

  12. Where are You? • Where are we as a congregation? • Are we growing toward spiritual maturity together? • Do we trust each other enough to share our faults and ask for help? • We need an honest self-evaluation and an open discussion of where we are before we can properly determine where we need to go!

  13. What is this you have done?Who told you that you were naked?Where are you?

  14. Where are You? Are you ready to meet God in your present spiritual condition?
