  1. John Rolfe Born- 1585 in Norfolk, England Died-1622 Varina Farms, Virginia Powerpoint by: Bridget Lujan P.3

  2. John Rolfe was known for the first very successful growing of tobacco, later used as an export crop in Virginia. He originally lived in England, and sailed over with Christopher Newport to settle in Virginia, soon after making the manufacturing of tobacco, fly through the roof.

  3. Rolfe had 3 spouses during his life His second wife, is the one everyone knows, Pocahontas. They were married for 3 years before her death. Between the three of them, he had 2 children, Thomas and Elizabeth. Thomas was Pocahontas’ son.

  4. Originally, Pocahontas and Rolfe married to help his plantation, to rescue some of Rolfe’s men that the Indians took captive, and to help with the friendship of the settlers and the Indians. She agreed to get baptized into the Christian Church, and she got re-named “Rebecca” by them. She and her new husband, sailed to England with their son, and Pocahontas died right before their journey home.

  5. Rolfe died in 1622 after his plantation was destroyed in a Native American attack. It is not known if he died from this attack, or from a sickness later in his life. His widowed spouse soon married Captain Roger Smith who was in some relation to John Smith. John Rolfe was one of the reasons Jamestown is what it is today.
