  1. Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon Dipl.-Ing. Helge Stuhr Technische Universität Berlin Institut für Land- und Seeverkehr Fachgebiet Schienenfahrwege und Bahnbetrieb

  2. Agenda • FlexCargoRail (FCR) • InnoCoupler, Automatic Central Buffer Coupling • Versatile, Efficient and Longer Wagon for European Transportation (VEL-Wagon) Helge Stuhr, 2010-05-26: Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon

  3. FlexCargoRail (FCR): Concept • Self-propelled, radio remote controlled freight wagons • Own electric traction for shunting movements and local distribution • Accumulator charged in the main run (loco-hauled) • Project FCR funded by BMWi from 2007-2008 Radio Accumulator Control panel Cooling unit Gearing Control panel Control system Motor Converter Helge Stuhr, 2010-05-26: Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon

  6. FCR: Example of a huge chemical site (I) • 40 loading sites, 500 shunting movements per day • 3 shuntig locomotives, 2 road rail vehicles Helge Stuhr, 2010-05-26: Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon

  7. FCR: Example of a huge chemical site (II) • Simulation of the movements of one locomotive Helge Stuhr, 2010-05-26: Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon

  8. FCR: Save selection of the wagons (I) • Two-step process: • Log in when reaching the local area (the siding) • Selection with the radio remote control unit FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR Master FCR RCR FCR FCR FCR FCR Helge Stuhr, 2010-05-26: Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon

  9. FCR: Save selection of the wagons (II) • Mixture of FCR-Wagons and conventional wagons: the communication has to “jump” over a conventional wagon FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR FCR Master FCR RCR FCR FCR FCR Helge Stuhr, 2010-05-26: Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon

  10. FCR: Conclusion • The project FCR (2007-2008) showed the basic technical and economic feasibility • Open points: • Safe selection and deselection of the FCR-wagons by radio remote control • Homologation (for private sidings or main line?) • Qualification of the personnel for moving FCR-Wagons via radio remote control • A new project consortium strives for the funding of a second project with the aim of solving the open points and of building and testing prototypes Helge Stuhr, 2010-05-26: Studies for the future Rail Freight Wagon
