  4. INFO ON PRESIDENT ARROYO • Born: April 5,1947 • Birthplace: • Father:DiosdadoMacapagal • 2nd longest serving president • Entered politics in 1987 • Is the 2nd female president • Served as senator from 1992-1998

  5. YEAR OF PRESIDENCY • She finished the term of President Joseph Estrada from January 20, 2001-June 30,2004 after Estrada was impeached. • She won the elections again on June 30,2004.She is our current president. • Her term will end in May 2010.

  6. STABILIZING THE GOVERNMENT • Peace talks were held between the government and the MILF , Abu Sayaff etc.

  7. RAISING LEVEL OF ECONOMY • The government encouraged foreign investments , through this many Filipinos woukd be employed. The government also allotted additional budgets.

  8. FOREIGN RELATIONS • President Arroyo continued our friendly relations with other countries. • She also attends the ASEAN and APEC conferences with some diplomatic representatives.

  9. She also allowed the holding of Balikatan Exercise of American soldiers in the Philippines. The American soldiers gave training to Filipino soldiers on war-related activities. • The Philippines was recognized as a valuable member of the North Atlantic treaty Organization (NATO)

  10. This happened when the country showed its all-out support against terrorism when Indonesian terrorist was killed by Mindanao police.

  11. FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT • Allocating a portion of the incremental revenue collected for the EEP. • Creating the Mt.Pinatubo Assistance, resettlement and development commision.

  12. Appropriating 10b pesos for the victims of the Mt.Pinatubo eruption. • Regulation of the organization and operation of thrift banks.

  13. AGRICULTURE AND THE ENVIRONMENT • Promoting the production,process- ing ,marketing and distribution. • Amending the charter of the Philippine crop insurance corporation inn order to make more stable and beneficial to farmers and the economy.

  14. Instituting a new system of mineral resources exploration, development, utilization and conservation.

  15. EDUCATION • Establishing computer literacy program in all public schools at the secondary level. • Instituting a public school teachers scholarship program.

  16. Building more schools,restoringenglish as the medium of instrution, implementing the Basic Education Curriculum or BEC ; improving teacher welfare.

  17. Improving Transportation and Road System • Decongestion of roads within Metro Manila is part of the agenda of the President in decentralizing progress around the nation through the use of transportation networks like the roll-on roll-off and the digital infrastructures.

  18. CREATION OF JOBS • Creation of 6 million jobs through loans to small enterprises and the development of land for agricultural business.

  19. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED • Like all the other presidents president arroyo encountered many problems.

  21. Abu Sayaff and the MILF • The Abu Sayaff is a militant organization based in the southern Philippines. It seeks a separate Islamic state for the country's Muslim minority.

  22. There were bombings, kidnapping , and assasinations done by the Abu Sayaff and the MILF. This caused fear and unrest among the people. • Their goal is to make Mindanao an independent country.

  23. OAK WOOD MUTINY • A coup d’etat by the Magdalo faction from the military. • They took over the oakwood premier ayala center. • They did this to show the corruption of president Arroyo

  24. OTHERS • The problem of unemployment.many people did not have jobs due to the constant increase in the price of commodities. • Selling of illegal drugs.

  25. Like the other administrations one of the main problems was corruption. • The government owed a very big debt to the IMF world bank. The debt amounted to more than 3 trillion pesos.
