  11. What is Tradition?

  12. The dictionary says TRADITION - • Tradition is defined as “the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from generation to generation, especially by word of mouth or by practice” • Tradition is simply “an inherited pattern of thought or action”

  13. Can you “SEE” Tradition? YES- Tradition is all around us at all times. Little things we don’t think of as being tradition affect us everyday. The traditions of Berkner athletes going all the way back to 1970 still live on today. The things you do NOW could be alive and still visible for Berkner athletes 5, 10, even 50 years from now.

What is WINNING Tradition? “Coach Sean Payton brings winning tradition to the Saints” “At TCU, winning tradition is the mission” “Team’s hard work helps bring back winning tradition” “…they are hoping to begin a winning tradition with a win in their first game” “ Eagles look to restore a winning tradition”

  21. What TRADITIONS does Berkner Football have?

  22. Scott Davis Berkner QB 1983-86 Favorite Berkner memory- “Beating Plano High for the firsttime in school history; it was a cold, rainy night and we won in the last 2 minutes of the game.”

  23. What does it mean to be a RAM? “Play from the heart; what a special time to play a great game with some of the best friends you will ever have.”

  24. What was Scott Davis’ great accomplishment as an athlete? Scott Davis was inducted into the Collegiate Hall of Fame for academic & athletic performance after his career ended at the Univ.of North Texas. -Inducted in 1999

  25. “Coach” Shane SmithBerkner DB 1988-1990Played on first ever Berkner playoff team in 1990 Favorite Berkner memories- • Playing the sport that I love…being part of a TEAM. • Playing at the Cotton Bowl (missed my sister’s wedding to play there) and playing at Texas Stadium What does it mean to be a Ram? Being a Ram is like being part of a family.  Take pride in that. These times are not forever… take every advantage of your opportunity to play the great sport of football and to be a part of the Berkner Rams. Make it mean something, when you put on the Berkner uniform…

  26. Coach Mark MalcolmApollo JH 1979-2005 Berkner HS 2005-2007 Pearce HS 2007-present “ One of my favorite Berkner memories is coming out of the tunnel in the Cotton Bowl to play Kimball in 1990.  The playoff runs in 2005 and 2006 were a blast.” • “My message to the Rams today is that you are blessed to play at a place that has a long history of producing great athletes.  Play with intensity on every play.  You cannot know how often you will look back on these days and wish that you could relive them.”

  27. Trey HavertyBerkner WR 1997-1999Texas Tech WR 2000-2003Currently safeties Coach @ TCU Biggest moment at Berkner was beating Lake Highlands in 1999 for first time in 13 years; we beat them 37-0 !!! “A lot of tradition has come through Berkner; ACCEPT THE TRADITION AND BEHOLD IT”

  28. Trey BryantBerkner D-Lineman 2002-2005Baylor Univ. D-Lineman 2005-2009Currently plays in AFL for Kansas City Command Losing my dad my senior year and seeing half of the team and all the coaches at his funeral. That let me know we weren't just teammates and they weren't just my coaches, but we were a family. But the best memory is being able to share those memories with coaches and teammates still this day because we all have stayed in touch. Also, making it to the playoffs for the first time in years (I don't remember how many years it was) is still special.

  29. Trey Bryant said this on what it means to be a RAM……… “You are not just playing for you, you are playing for the guy next to, to the side, back, and front of you. That's not just your teammate, that's your brother and as your brothers you hold one another accountable on and off the field. It's not about me, it's about we!!”

  30. Justin JohnsonBerkner QB 2004-2006Univ. of Houston 2007-present I have many memories playing at Berkner, but some of the best memories are simply the times in which I was on the bus with the rest of the fellas heading to a game, all the summer work preparing for the season, and just the locker room itself –because I miss the time Ispentwith fellow teammates bonding and working for a common goal- and the friendships I made were priceless.

  31. Justin Johnson What does it mean to be a Ram? It means everything to be a Ram. It means you have pride in what you do. It means you take no shortcuts even when no one is watching. It means you have high character and you strive to be the best man you can be on the field and in life. It means you graduate and become successful as fellow Rams because that is the “standard”. It means you come early and stay late-because it means something to you. It means you don't let that name on the back of your jersey be misrepresented and let your family down, your coaches down and most importantly your teammates. That's what being a Ram means.
