  2. Background • Oftel statement of July 2001 challenged industry to establish a voluntary Ombudsman scheme • Basis - RVTD, USD, White Paper • Implementation working group (IWG) established to take work forwards

  3. Progress I • Ombudsman company set up • Logica report on costs, etc completed • Treasury approval for Oftel to underwrite start-up loan received • Draft Articles of Association completed

  4. Progress II • Adverts for Council and Chair published • Advert for Ombudsman today • IWG will appoint Council • Council will appoint Ombudsman • NB - Oftel not involved in appointments

  5. Progress III • IWG is producing a paper for the industry summarising the Logica report • Industry info meeting in February: • update on progress • discuss findings and recommendations of Logica report • IWG to start work with Oftel, ICSTIS, etc to establish operational MOUs

  6. Summary • Excellent progress so far • Summer 2002 target still possible • Number of companies have expressed intent to join • Companies will be asked to provide firm commitment March/ April • Number of issues to still resolve…
