  2. What is a genetic disorders? A genetic disorder is a disease caused by • a different form of a gene called a variation • or an alteration of a gene called a mutation

  3. Mutations • Mutations can occur randomly or because of an environmental exposure. Ex.: Cigarette smoke

  4. Inherited Genetic Disorders • A mutated gene can be passed down from generation to generation. • Genetic disorders can also deal with an individual having an incorrect number of genes. (ex.: Down Syndrome)

  5. For each disease: • How does someone get this disease/disorder? • Describe three of the main symptoms of this disease/disorder. • How can this disease/disorder be treated?
