  1. By: Tami Morse, M.S. CCC-SLP Speech Language Pathology Department 2014-15PDU TitleProfessional Development Unit

  2. Monthly meetings to plan and discuss progress • Collaborated with peers for most effective means to share resources • Training for website development from department specialist During the course of this PDU, what three instructional strategies did I implement? What strategy worked best? Why?

  3. Training for wikispace development • Collaborative discussions of appropriate materials (in person & online) • Uploading resources – applying new technical knowledge • I collaborated with multiple people in the group to ensure that they were able to access the website, correct access errors, facilitated uploading of resources and primary development of navigation and page development. • We collaborated via face to face meetings, emails, wikispace, google docs, and phone conversations How did I apply the PDU strategies to the development of the website? (examples) Who did I collaborate with during the PDU? Discuss the ways you collaborated while implementing the PDU strategies.

  4. How to upload materials to my computer and to the wikispace • Accessing materials that I have not looked at in years • Researching existing materials and comparing what is effective and what is not • Self-evaluating the effectiveness of my resources and whether I need to keep those resources on a digital file or not • Access to materials that other SLPs have in order to better meet the needs of my students • Learn to lead and coordinate my colleagues so that we could develop an effective resource that will benefit our department and the students What did I learn to do as a result of the PDU and strategy implementation in my practice?

  5. Has granted me greater access to a variety of resources • Has allowed me to learn about website development – more tech saavy • Better service delivery because it will cut down on my planning time now that I can access my resources in one place • I prefer word of mouth for effective resources and now have access to personal favorites of colleagues • Helped with gaining confidence for coordinating the efforts of colleagues to create and ongoing project Why is this PDU action research process important to my students learning and to my growth as a professional?

  6. Surveys – colleague feedback (pre-post surveys) • Able to get feedback from colleagues to see what is really needed to help us improve as professionals • Feedback from colleagues as to how to improve the wikispace so that is more effective • Access to resources for data collection and materials/activities • Compilation of effective resources for different areas of need • Access to programs that would otherwise not have access to PDU Data AnalysisReflecting on the data you have collected, how did this experience impact instruction, progress monitoring, student performance, and your own practice?

  7. I will now be able to explore resources on the website • Improve time management and planning by having all resources in one location • Increase knowledge in areas of need – e.g., selective mutism, fluency • Ongoing professional development – continue in the Fall by taking the feedback provided by colleagues to improve the effectiveness of the wikispace • Work with colleagues in my role as a Team Leader to compile additional resources that will support other SLPs and students who have speech &/or language needs How will I apply my new learning in the future to further my practice? What are my next steps?
