Intelligent parking on a roll. Material Specifications
TemPark is a geotextile/flexible geogrid/geotextile composite (GGC) liner that is placed on a prepared soil/aggregate subgrade to provide a smooth clean support surface for the short-term storage of motor vehicles. The geogrid is presently manufactured from polypropylene (PP) yarns while the geotextiles are made from ultraviolet-resistant PET and polypropylene (PP). The exposed geotextile is made from PET, the lower one from PP. To provide a large surface area the rolls are joined along the edges by thermally welding the geotextiles together. The use of a flexible geogrid core allows the composite to lie flat when deployed and minimizes the amount of thermal expansion wrinkling. Several rolls are welded together to form large panels, the edges of which are buried in anchor trenches or welded to adjacent panels. The panels must be welded, tensioned, and anchored in such a way that they contain essentially no wrinkles when installed and do not develop wrinkles at higher service temperatures. The bond strength between geocomposite component must be such that turning vehicle wheels do not cause separation of the bonds, rucking, and ultimate tearing of the geotextile. The specifications presented in the following pages should be considered to be a work in progress, ready for updating as new performance characteristics are understood. The upper geotextile is made from nonwoven needle-punched PET staple fibers that are UV-resistant. Geotextile Specifications (minimum average roll values, MARV) are listed in Table 1. PET Geotextile specifications The lower geotextile is made from nonwoven needlepunched PP staple fibers that are UV resistant
PP Geotextile Specifications The coated biaxial geogrid is made from knitted PP yarns.
The properties required of the fabricated geocomposite are as follows:Ply adhesion (average) GRI.GC7 (4 in. wide specimen) >10.0 ppiPly adhesion (minimum) GRI.GC7 (4 in. wide specimen) >8.0 ppiThe minimum permeability of the geotextile/geotextile areas of the composite shall be 0.20 cm/s.The geotextile shall be bonded across the full width of the geogrid and shall not overlap the edge of the geogrid.A white line shall be marked 6 in. from each edge of the geogrid on the outside geotextile on the finished roll to guide overlaps when unrolled.Geocomposite shall be rolled on rigid cores with a minimum inside diameter of 4 in. The ends of the cores shall not be damaged during plant storage and shipping. The finished rolls shall be as follows:Geocomposite width 26 ft ± 0.5 in.Length 400 ft, or as specified, +5 ft, - zeroTelescoping < ± 1 in.Wrapping opaque, and protection of the rolls ends.
