  3. 56 100 Lets review what we have learned in the last lesson Convert from Percent to Decimal: To convert a percent to decimal, divide by 100. It means moving the decimal point two places to the left. Example : 56% 56% = = 0.56 56% is equivalent to the decimal 0.56. Confidential

  4. Convert from Decimal to Percent To convert a decimal to a percent, multiply by 100. It means moving the decimal point two places to the right. Example: 0.34 0.34 x 100 = 34 % 0.34 is equivalent to 34% Confidential

  5. Amount of increase or decrease Original amount Percent increase or decrease To find percent increase or decrease, use the formula = % increase or decrease Confidential

  6. What is a Fraction? A fraction is a number that expresses part of a whole. Fractions are written in the form or a/b, where a and b are whole numbers, and the number b is not equal to 0. The number a is called the numerator, and the number b is called the denominator. Let us start! Confidential

  7. Example of fractions • ½, ¾, 4/5 • The fraction 5/6 represents the shaded region of the square below. There are six equal parts in square and only five parts are shaded. Confidential

  8. Percent What is a percent? • The word percent comes from the Latin phrase per centum, which means per hundred. • A percent is a ratio whose second term is 100. • Percent means parts per hundred. • we use the symbol % for percent. • Example: 60 %, 75 %, 90 % Confidential

  9. For converting fractions to percent follow the following steps: Divide the numerator of the fraction by its denominator Multiply the result by 100 (for that move the decimal point two places to the right) Put the % sign at the end of the result Converting fractions to percent Confidential

  10. Example • Convert the fraction ¾ to percent. ¾ = 0.75 (Divide 3 by 4) Now multiply 0.75 by 100, we will get 0.75 x 100 = 75 So, ¾ = 75% Divide 3 by 4 and Multiply by 100. Put % at the end. Confidential

  11. Example • Convert the fraction 7/8 to percent. 7/8 = 0.875 (Divide 7 by 8) Now multiply 0.875 by 100, we will get 0.875 x 100 = 87.5 So, 7/8 = 87.5% Divide 7 by 8 and Multiply by 100. Put % at the end. Confidential

  12. For converting percent to fractions follow the following steps: First remove the Percent sign Make a fraction with the percent as the numerator and 100 as the denominator Reduce/simplify the fraction Converting percent to fraction Confidential

  13. Example • Convert the 60 % to fraction. 60 (Remove the % sign) Now divide 60 by 100 and then simplify, we will get 60/ 100 = 3/5 So, 60 % = 3/5 Remove % signand divide by 100. Confidential

  14. Example • Convert the 85 % to fraction. 85 (Remove the % sign) Now divide 60 by 100 and then simplify, we will get 85/ 100 = 17/20 So, 85 % = 17/20 Remove % signand divide by 100. Confidential
