  1. Internet Redundancy Project

Ray A. Smith Assistant Executive Director for Technology Mississippi Community College Board
  2. Challenges Each CC is highly dependent on Internet connectivity for students and faculty, online services from MCCB and other service providers, cloud based email, offsite backups, data file submissions, e-learning, business office transactions, credit card transactions, streaming sports events and graduations, in short, the Internet is the life blood of the CC’s and downtime is unacceptable. The current solution, a single Internet connection with a single point of failure, is no longer acceptable to our students, faculty or administrators who all rely on the Internet.
  3. Redundancy Strategies
  4. Strategy #1 The first strategy is to create a redundant datacenter with a high speed connection back to the MCCB Datacenter.  These centers will run in active-active mode, so that if either is shut down for some unforeseen reason the other will continue to provide services to the colleges without any interruptions.
  5. Strategy #2 The second strategy is to acquire redundant circuits or circuits with negotiated Service Level Agreements or SLA’s. ISP Circuit West Circuit East Community College A
  6. Strategy #3 The third strategy is to provide the colleges with access to two Internet Service Providers or ISP’s. ISP #2 ISP #1 Community College A
