O. Smith, Excel Industries, Sugar Foods • Specialize in advanced / new QAD technologies, .Net UI, CSS, Enterprise Financials, Performance Tuning, Non-Intrusive Customizations • Have team of consultants in China available globally

  5. QXtend Case Study QXtend As Integration Strategy For Eaton • Eaton started its effort to take advantage of QADs QXtend integration framework in 2010 • Web Labor became the first QXtend project launched at Eaton • Number of QXtend integration projects are developed along with the Oracle Fusion Middleware suite • QXtend was identified as the replacement of obsolete Q/LinQ product

  6. QXtend Case Study Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) • SOA is a business operations strategy for leveraging information to meet the enterprise’s objectives and deliver business capacity • SOA provides a set of principles of governing concepts used during phases of system development and integration • With loose coupling of services, SOA fulfils intra and inter-enterprise services reuse and process interoperability • SOA will automate business functions and deliver solutions cheaper, better and faster

  7. QXtend Case Study *From QAD QXtend Training Guide

  8. QXtend Case Study *From QAD QXtend Training Guide

  9. QXtend Case Study QXtend Inbound • Supports versions eB through QAD 2012EE and SE • Receive QDocs via Web Service and process QDocs by a pool of sessions (multi threaded) • Supports both standard and custom QDocs • Security checking • QAD Enterprise Applications authentication • XML message validation • E-mail alerts • Pre/post-processing available for added functionality • Query Service (in conjunction with QXO) allows real time query into QAD Enterprise Applications • Service Interface for maximum flexibility

  10. QXtend Case Study QXtend Inbound (QXI) Enterprise Interfaces QAD App QXtend Inbound QXtend Outbound QDoc QAD App QAD EA SOAP (XML) Over HTTP 3rd Party Programs

  11. QXtend Case Study QXtend Inbound vs. CIM • CIM Has Been Used Very Often In Integration Solutions, But… • Sequence sensitive • Easy to break • Only works with character interface • Difficult response tracking / exception handling • Difficult to work across servers / databases / domains • Maintenance programs with UI triggers (wrappers, ICT, TailorPro) will fail • End of life approach • QXtend Is The Answer To The Problems With CIM

  12. QXtend Case Study QXtend Outbound • Provides outbound QAD integration • Event-based publish subscribe model • Direct Data Publishing model (DDP) • Publishes QDocs or other XML documents • Delivers to subscriber via web-service or file • Real time or batched • Built-in email alerts

  13. QXtend Case Study Bank Interfaces QAD MES BOM Shipping Info For Customs (2TS) (SRM) Spend Management QAD .Net UI Or Batch Initiates Messaging (Event Or DDP)

  14. QXtend Case Study Shared Service Model QXO UI Source Application Subscriber QDocs MFG/PRO #1 QXO Server MFG/PRO #1 (via QXI) Adapter MFG/PRO #2 (via QXI) MFG/PRO #2 Adapter MFG/PRO #3 (via QXI) MFG/PRO #3 Adapter JCAPS (EAI)

  15. QXtend Case Study Eaton does not operate all of its business or business processes on a single software solution…it is not technically feasible nor practical. As a result, Eaton’s application architecture is comprised of multiple applications that serve specific business/process needs. However, there is a need to share information between disparate/separate systems – that’s integration.

  16. QXtend Case Study • MFGPro is a core component of the overall Eaton Industrial technology solution • QXtend is the enabler for access to information within our 40+ global MFGPro environments

  17. QXtend Case Study QXTEND • Native QAD Software • Exposes MFGPro via web services • Bi-Directional XML Transactions • Supports eB, eB2 and eB2.1 • Integrates with Oracle Fusion Middleware via web services

  18. QXtend Case Study Solutions Developed With QXtend PowerBOM Hydraulics & Aerospace PowerQuote Hydraulics Web Labor Hydraulics & Aerospace QXtend Service Integrator • Leveraging Order-to-Cash PIP • 7 Integration Services • 2 live sites: Guelph & Synflex • Planned rollout sites: • Point to Point • One Integration Service • Built for ERP expansion • 2 Integration Services • MBOM live March 2012 • MFGPro environments: 9 • Aerospace Sites: 17 • Hydraulics Sites: 23 • Berea (Oct 2012) • Van Wert (Jan 2013) • Airflex (Mar 2013) • Cylinders (May 2013) • Pharos (June 2013) • Brazil (Aug 2013)

  19. QXtend Case Study Solutions Developed With QXtend MES Pilot Aerospace Site PQM Aerospace EDGE Aerospace • Built for ERP expansion • 3 Integration Services • Go live: September 2012 • Leveraging Hydraulics PowerQuote • 4 Integration Services • Go live: November 2012 • Expand beyond 1-to-1 limitation • Migrate remaining services to SOA • Call Activity Reporting • Call Labor • Install Base Search • Install Base Move • Maintain Call • Repair Sales Order • Maintain Material Order • Master Comments • Call Update • Call Line Update • Call Line CAR Update • Material Order Consume • Preshipper Number • Repair Order Shipment • Bethel • Glenolden • Grand Rapids • Jackson (MS) • Los Angeles • Sarasota

  20. QXtend Case Study Query Service Or Service Interface (SI) • The PowerBOM interface was initially designed to use Query Service for full BOM retrieval • Inter-system recursion caused prohibitive performance issues • Switched to more flexible SI interface so the BOM tree traverse can be done recursively within a single call (session recursion) • Full BOM retrieval completed within seconds • Available To All QAD versions (even for 7.4 if necessary)

  21. QXtend Case Study Web Labor • Eaton need an intuitive user interface for shop floor labor reporting • Web Labor is a J2EE application deployed on Tomcat • Point to point connection to QXtend • Uses QXtend Query Service for data retrieval / validation • Uses QXtend Inbound to commit data to QAD • No additional database needed • Deployed to over a dozen plants

  22. QXtend Case Study Web Labor

  23. QXtend Case Study Web Labor

  24. QXtend Case Study Web Labor

  25. QXtend Case Study Web Labor

  26. QXtend Case Study Web Labor

  27. QXtend Case Study Future Enhancements • Implementing DDP (Direct Data Publishing) for more complex data integrations • Configure Web Labor from point-to-point connection with QXtend to the Fusion Middleware • Explorer other areas where QXtend can help to drive the ROI of QAD ERP Applications

  28. QXtend Case Study Conclusions • The success of QXtend implementations at Eaton helped to establish QXtend as the enterprise integration solution for all of Eaton’s QAD ERP environments • Legacy QAD plants need be upgraded to take advantage of QXtend integration framework (carrot to the business) • Continued effort to explore opportunities to further utilize QXtend to bring value to our business leveraging QAD ERP applications
