AOOS Partnerships with Canada 1) Arctic Council’s PAME Working Group (Protection of Arctic Marine Environment) Participating in Ecosystem Approach to Management Workshops (at request of NOAA) Collaborating with Canada Dept of Fisheries & Oceans to share data Developing joint data products that cover entire Beaufort Sea across U.S./Canada, building on Canada’s BSOP (Beaufort Sea Online Platform)

  2. AOOS Partnerships with Canada • Canada’s Ocean Tracking Network • Supporting acoustic array at entrances to Prince William Sound • Monitoring tagged sharks, salmon, cod, whales & other organisms passing through PWS that also migrate into Canadian waters

AOOS Partnerships with Canada 3) International DBO(Distributed Biological Observatory) • DBO is a research agreement among international icebreakers conducting research in Chukchi & Beaufort Seas • Partners conduct sampling at set stations according to set protocols & agree to share data • AOOS is providing some of the data management support & support for year-round mooring to anchor Line 4

NANOOS Partnerships with Canada • Participation on each others’ Advisory Councils • ONC official sits on NANOOS Governing Council • NANOOS Director sits on MEOPAR International Science Advisory Team • Sharing data • e.g., NANOOS NVS serves Canadian asset data and NANOOS asset data are available to Canada partners

  5. NANOOS Partnerships with Canada Data are shared across the border for use in both: to date: Environment Canada, VENUS/ONC, Vancouver Island Univ.

  6. NANOOS Partnerships with Canada e.g., pH data from Vancouver Island University

  7. Global HF Radar Network • Established March 2012 • Goals: • Increase numbers of radars • Data available in a single standardized format • Develop worldwide quality standards • Assimilate the data into ocean models • Develop standard product suite and advance the emerging applications
