  3. TYPES OF PARTNERSHIP • Internal- P.T.A. • External- Business Community, Church, Ministry of Education, Past Student Association, Government Agencies, Non-government Organizations. • International- Global School, Project Abroad, Read Across Jamaica, P.C.N. Kids Foundation

  4. Strongest PARTNERS - P.T.A. • 16 P.T.A meetings • Marking students’ work. • Observe classes • Invigilate Mock Examinations • Supervise students at school and on field trips.

  5. What the school does for parents • Seminars- Numeracy and Literacy • Parents’ Expo • Parents’ Worship Service • Parents’ Social

  6. PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CHURCH • Chapel- Meetings/seminars • Students attend special functions • Provides learning materials • Medicals for needy GSAT awardees

  7. Partnership with local businesses • Patrons of houses sponsor sports day. • Provide prizes and awards • Juici Patties-Breakfast Programme • Clearsight- Free eye testing • Grace Kennedy- Patron for Jamaica Day • Banks- provide furniture, musical instruments

  8. PARNERSHIP WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES • Police- Nightly patrol of school compound • Mandeville Health Department- Fungus check and free medicals • Mico Care – Evaluation of special needs students • Fire Department- fire drills, seminars

  9. INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS • P.C.N. Kids Foundation- Scholarship valuing over $700,000.00 • Dr. Kerr- Story Books • Project Abroad International Volunteers, Water Project • Global School Partnership

  10. GLOBAL SCHOOL PARtNERSHIP • Funded by British Counsel • St.Thomas Primary- started 2011 • Sharing Best Practices • Partners visited McIntosh three times • Motto-Global Partnership: Key to Global Citizenship

  11. Activities done while visiting • Observed classes and gave useful feedback • Conducted seminars • Taught classes • Visited other schools • Met with the school board and parents

Best practices adopted by st. thomas primary • Using music to teach Literacy and Numeracy • Integration of culture in learning activities • Jamaica Day, Carol service, Prefect Body • Parents are observing classes • Was a failing school in 2010. In 2013, they were ranked an outstanding school.

BEST PRACTICES ADOPTED BY MCINTOSH MEMORIAL PRIMARY • Star of the Day- identifying the good qualities in each child. • Safety and security tips done each day • Success criteria • Students developing their own targets • Constructive feedback eg. You have started to use wow words. • Father and son day

  14. Things I like but cannot implement • Pupil teacher ratio: 230- 35 teachers and assistance • Fruits served for break • Water is the only liquid given to students • Menu must be submitted to health authority

  15. JOINT PROGRAMMEs • Penpal with students and teachers of St. Thomas Primary. • Joint curriculum-based project Theme: “Healthy Lifestyles through Food”.

  16. To develop strong partnership: • Schools must be seen as successful institution. • Principal must be a Geo-Political leader. • Principal must be on site in sight. • Principal must be an effective communicator and diplomat. • Principal must have a vision for his/her school. • God must be his/her number one partner.
