  2. Pakistan’s Case Studies There is no easy fix or short term plan which will ensure growth in Pakistan. But the following facts need noting: Population Growth:Approx180 Million1.551% (Two thirds under the age of 25 years,2012 est.) Consumer Appetite: (annual % growth) in Pakistan was last reported at 7.02 in 2011 Human Capital: The country's social sector traditionally underperforms even during periods of strong macroeconomic growth. This fundamental weakness has continued to prevent improvements into blue and white collar labour Natural Resources: Natural gas consumption, real capital, labour and real exports are positively affecting the economic growth in Pakistan.   3. Telecoms & Micro Finance • Easy Paisa mobile SMS pilot In 2009, Telenor Pakistan partnered with Tameer Micro Finance Bank to introduce branchless banking for the first time in Pakistan. Dairy Farming • ApnaArsh Pakistan ApnaArsh Pakistan and Center for Sustainable Development (AAP-CSDA), partnered to create a citizen sector organization partnership, with an emphasis on grassroots to policy level activities and advocacy are proud to bring to Pakistan the pioneering AgriBusiness Development Forum (ABDF). This Forum was held at LUMS on the 31st of January 2012 and was organized with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN as well as the Agriculture Support Fund (ASF). On average it takes five Pakistani cows to produce as much milk as one cow in other countries. However, most smallholder farmers in Pakistan cannot afford the imported, high-quality bull semen that would improve their breeds. Health Innovation • Mobile health clinics RMF- Sindh Health Initiative began its operation in January 2011 by first networking extensively with the local health authorities and registering with the district health cluster coordinated by WHO and UNOCHA. Out of the four Tehsils in District Dadu, TalukaJohi was selected since it was the hardest hit by the floods due to its location between two major water sourceshttp://www.realmedicinefoundation.org/initiative/update/pakistan-sindh-mobile-clinic-final-project-report • Chip and pin health ID cards The Awareness programme includes Topical issues relating to Prenatal / Antenatal period, Labour and Post Natal period, Gynaecological issues, Female Cancers, Cervical and Breast Cancers, Menopause http://ifmch.com/ • Up-skilling ‘Dais’ alongside Lady health workers Trained birth attendants at delivery are important for preventing both maternal and newborn deaths. In South Asia, it is prevalent, where many women still deliver at home and without the assistance of trained birth attendants. Particular diseases and epidemics are simply symptoms of a larger problem, namely the affliction of the whole system.   6. Renewable Energy • Rural Hydra Projects: Three brothers working in Pakistan’s remote Chitral communities are helping provide green electricity for 45,000 homes. Their micro hydro-electricity projects, 70 to date, include manufacturing and installation, giving Pakistani families clean and reliable power. So far they have helped supply 10 MW of clean greenhouse gas-free power in two years, working closely with the Clean Development Mechanism, a United Nations tool to help mitigate climate change. The projects are in “far flung areas” says RahimDiyar , the managing director of Hydrolink. Rahim is only 23-years-old, and armed with an MBA has enlisted his engineering brother Fazli Rabbi to help realize the dream of creating sustainable power for Pakistan, from within.
