  2. Purpose Of This Presentation Update the school board and public, per our agreement with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR), on our Behavior Support Plan and progress

  3. MDHR Agreement Signed March 28, 2018 • Discipline Plan report to School Board in August • Report to MDHR by September 1 of each year: • Strategies employed • Metrics to measure success • Outcomes from the past year • Mid-year Update - Feb. 25, 2019

  4. District Behavior Plan Our Behavioral Support Philosophy We believe that keeping students in class is essential to ensuring their readiness to thrive in our rapidly changing world. Therefore, our behavior support system will: • Be proactive in developing positive behavior support processes; • Be culturally intelligent; • Only use removal from class and/or school as a last resort; • Guide building level decision making in regards to student misconduct.

  5. Behavior Report School Board Responsibilities • Review and update relevant policies • Review OSS data • Community and Student Engagement • Review and Support Discipline Plan • Reporting to MDHR

  6. Behavior Report 2018-2019 work to complete: • Engage Board Student Advisory Groups • Active Participation with MDHR Diversion Committee/Subcommittees • Policy Updates • August Reporting/Analysis

  9. Behavior Report 2018/19 Trends: • Reduced OSS (SpEd and African American) • Increased use of PAUSE • Reduced out of class time for African American Students • 3rd Year in row of lower OSS (projected)

  10. Behavior Report Metrics to Measure Success 2018 - 2019: • Reduce total district OSS to 146 students or less • Reduce total district discretionary OSS to 57 students or less • Reduce total district non-disc. OSS to 89 students or less
