  7. TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION: • Microsoft Access • Prezi • Moviemaker • Photoshop • Cyber Safety • Keyboarding • Microsoft Word • Microsoft Excel • Microsoft Publisher • Microsoft PowerPoint

  8. Students have an opportunity to work on: Class assignments Make up tests Catch up with notes and study guides Download documents needed to use offline at home Remediate math or reading ENRICHMENT / INTERVENTION 7 & 8

Grade 7: Band 6is preferred as pre-requisite Grade 8: Band 6 & 7 are preferred as pre-requisites Semester one and two Summer Camp to practice marching routine Student can enroll in Band 7 or 8 with teacher approval if pre-requisite classes were not taken. ggammon@ocsredskins.com BAND 7 & 8(Semester 1 & 2)

Choir/Music 7 & 8 • This course is an exploration through the world of vocal, electronic, and popular music. • This includes: • singing • playing instruments • exploring the process of creating music • sharing that music with others. • Throughout the semester we will learn how to create music in GarageBand, play songs on the Ukulele, and learn about music in new and exciting ways.

STEAM LAB 7 & 8 • The STEAM Lab will provide students the opportunity to use their creativity in a technology-rich, hands-on learning environment which will better develop students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills.    • Students will explore topics in eight categories: • Students will be encouraged to choose an appropriate level of challenge, apply their own interests and learning styles, and explore questions of personal relevance.  • They will maintain learning journals, create project presentations, and reflect on their own learning.

  17. LEADERSHIP AND PUBLIC SPEAKING • This course covers the following: • Public speaking • Presentation • Appearance • Speaking Toolbox (tone, pace, register, etc.) • Debating or defending ethical issues • Panel • Research to evidence an issue

  18. career planning • The course covers: • Career assessment to identify interests and skills • Career comparison • College Searches and comparison • 4-Year Plan by selecting courses for grades 9 – 12 based on students’ career interests test results • Writing Resume and Interviewing skills • Workplace behavior

  20. Advanced courses lay strong foundation for future advanced and AP courses. These courses establish a clear pipeline for college bound students to succeed in rigorous coursework. Advanced Courses numeric grade are weighted; two points are added to each semester average. Due to the rigor of advanced courses, students making B’s and C’s and used to making A’s and B’s, they are still getting good academic foundation. ADVANCED COURSE DESCRIPTION

Advanced Courses & Recommendations: • Open Enrollment: • Guidelines are suggested scores to make sure students will be successful in Advanced classes. • Students are advised to check the Accelerated Math, Advanced English and Science guidelines posted on OMS website.(Select Oneonta Middle school from the middle square of the home page, find “News & Events”, click on “Forms” and find the documents.) or click on this link http://bit.ly/1S9M0uL • Students’ performance will be monitored and withdrawal from Advanced courses will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Grade 6: Math 6 or Advanced Math 6 can be selected with flexibility. • Selecting Advanced Math 6 would definitely prepare for Accelerated Math 7 • Grade 7: Selecting Accelerated Math 7 is a pre-requisite for Accelerated Math 8 • Students can opt out of accelerated path and select Math 8 if unsuccessful in accelerated math 7. • Grade 8: Accelerated Math 8 cannot be taken without having had Accelerated Math 7, by ALSDE guidelines. • There are additional standards covered in Advanced courses that prepare students for the next Accelerated course. • Students can opt out of advanced path, however they will have to double up if they want to get back on the advanced path in high school. • At the end of Grade 8, every student will be prepared for Geometry in Grade 9, regardless of middle school pathway completed • If accelerated pathway is chosen and successfully completed, the student will be prepared to enter directly into Algebra II in Grade 10

ACCELERATED MATH 7 ALGEBRA I • A Math Packet covering basic pre-requisite skills will be distributed at the end of the school year to students who have requested Accelerated Math 7 or Algebra I (see Mr. Mitchell or Mrs. Jones) • tjones@ocsredskins.com • bmitchell@ocsredskins.com • Students are required to submit the completed packet on the first day of school. • Students will be tested at the beginning of school on the material covered in the packet. This test will count 100 points and be the first test grade of the quarter.

  25. Accelerated Math 7 Algebra I Students are required to have: • The ability to do independent learning. • The ambition to succeed in a rigorous and fast pace instructional environment. Note: Access to web based components outside of school would be helpful.

A reading list will be distributed at the end of the school year to students who have requested Advanced English Students are required to select 3 books from a preapproved list and read them during the summer. Students will be tested during 1st quarter of 2019-20 school year on the books that were read. Gr. 7: Check out Mrs. Powell’s webpage for the summer reading list. ADVANCED SCIENCE 7 • Using Canvas: teacher posts notes, PowerPoints, assignments, and labs for students to access • Students are expected to read notes and labs on their own when assigned. • This is a fast paced class, student are expected to work outside of class when needed to keep up. • Tests will be given in multiple ways: on Chromebooks, paper, through the science lab, as well as projects and presentations. • Labs and activities will be done in small groups. Students are expected to contribute in their group and follow lab safety protocol. • Access to internet at home is helpful to review materials on Canvas. • See Coach Riley for any questions or concerns. • nriley@ocsredskins.com

  29. ADVANCED SCIENCE 8 Advanced Physical Science is based on a national math and science program: A+ College Ready.  The course requires a genuine effort from each student.  • Prerequisite skills: Algebraic math • A Science Packet consist of memorizing “The Periodic Table” will be distributed in May to students who have requested Advanced Science 8. • Tests and quizzes will be provided by the A+ College Ready program.  • Notes and labs should be read prior to class • Computer based assignments: Canvas and Google Docs • Watch assigned videos • Lab Curriculum • Group/Individual Assignments and Grades • Lab Reports & Performance Exams • Access to internet at home is helpful in order to seek out supplemental information and support classroom learning. • For questions see Mrs. Reynolds kreynolds@ocsredskins.com
