Voltage Regulation Calculation for 220V Three-Phase Generator with Lagging Power Factor

This document outlines the steps to calculate the voltage regulation for a 220-volt three-phase generator. The generator has a synchronous impedance of Zsynch = 0.135 + j1.22 Ohms. Given a rated current of 82 amps and a lagging power factor of 0.8, we determine the voltage regulation. Key calculations include finding the resulting voltage and the final regulation percentage, which is computed to be 64%. This analysis is crucial for assessing generator performance in varying load conditions.

  1. Three-Phase GeneratorRegulation Problem: For the 220 volt three-phase generator, having a Zsynch = 0.135+j1.22 Ohms Determine the voltage regulation for a rated current of 82 amps and 0.8 lagging power factor

  2. Calculations  = Cos-1(0.8) = -36.8 o VOC = I /  (Zsynch) + 127 VOC = 82 / -36.8 o (0.135 + j1.22) + 127 VOC =208 volts

  3. Final Calculations • VNL = 208.8)(√3) = 361 volts • VFL = 220 volts • Reg = (VNL-VFL)/VFL = 64 %
