  1. Passion for God Psalm 63

  2. Mission statement: “Loving God by loving others.”

  3. I want to deliberately encourage this mighty longing after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted. Too bad that with many of us He waits so long, so very long, in vain. Every age has its own characteristics. Right now we are in an age of religious complexity. The simplicity which is in Christ is rarely found among us. In its stead

  4. are programs, methods, organizations and a world of nervous activities which occupy time and attention but can never satisfy the longing of the heart. The shallowness of our inner experience, the hollowness of our worship, and that servile imitation of the world which marks our promotional methods all testify that we, in this day, know God only imperfectly, and the peace of God scarcely at all. A. W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God

  5. Context for Psalm 63 O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

  6. 5 Actions David does to increase his passion for God: • 1. Occupies his mind with thoughts of God 2 Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,To see Your power and Your glory.

  7. 5 Actions David does to increase his passion for God: • 1. Occupies his mind with thoughts of God • 2. He speaks praises to the Lord 3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,My lips will praise You.4 So I will bless You as long as I live;I will lift up my hands in Your name.5 My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness,And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

  8. 5 Actions David does to increase his passion for God: • 1. Occupies his mind with thoughts of God • 2. He speaks praises to the Lord • 3. He meditates on the Lord 6 When I remember You on my bed,I meditate on You in the night watches,

  9. 5 Actions David does to increase his passion for God: • 1. Occupies his mind with thoughts of God • 2. He speaks praises to the Lord • 3. He meditates on the Lord • 4. He sings for joy

  10. 7 For You have been my help,And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.8 My soul clings to You;Your right hand upholds me.

  11. 5 Actions David does to increase his passion for God: • 1. Occupies his mind with thoughts of God • 2. He speaks praises to the Lord • 3. He meditates on the Lord • 4. He sings for joy • 5. He rejoices in his God

  12. 9 But those who seek my life to destroy it,Will go into the depths of the earth.10 They will be delivered over to the power of the sword; They will be a prey for foxes.11 But the king will rejoice in God;Everyone who swears by Him will glory,For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.

  13. Evaluate your religious activity for a few minutes: • Is this vital to my relationship with Christ? • Does this encourage me to grow deeper in my walk? • Am I doing this for the right motive? • What would happen if I stopped this activity? • Should I? Am I willing to do so?

  14. Maybe you need to change some longstanding habits to add freshness to your relationship with Christ: • Drive to church a different route. • Change your time of meeting with the Lord each day. • Pray after the meal instead of before it. • Add a song of praise to your devotion time. • Use another version of Scripture. • Sit in a different place at church next Sunday. • Busy Schedule: You Version Bible app (has a pic of a Bible that says Holy Bible) Andy Stanley, 5 day devotionals up to 100 days on just about any topic and you can choose a variety of Bible versions
