  1. Welcome to Mrs. Verdi’s Homeroom #807 • Please sit in your assigned seat. • Enrollment Procedures – we will begin when announcement is made that car rider line is empty and all buses are in. • Review your schedule. Check to make sure you have 7 class periods in each semester (8 is homeroom!). Please WAIT if you have questions or issues. • Other: First Day Folders, Emergency Cards, Immunization Forms, Afternoon Transportation

  2. Tuesday, August 20Bellwork United States History • Fold the notecard “hotdog” and make a name tent with your FIRST name on one side. On the back, write your educational goal or career goal. • If you brought supplies, please have them out on your desk. Welcome

  3. First Order of Business Attended Open House First Timers • If you have supplies, show me and place on the back counter. • If you have your spiral, show me and then write name and class period on the cover and place in the crate. • Get a copy of Class Info Handout. • Note in agenda: Parents need to EMAIL Mrs. Verdi with parent (s) names, student name and class period.

  4. Order in the Classroom • Students will play an important role in classroom management. I will request volunteers to hand out notebooks and papers, and will ask everyone to clean up at the end of each period. Please have a positive attitude about helping! • Remember that a classroom is a place for expanding knowledge. Our primary focus is to advance your education. Please respect this and understand that everyone has the right to hear the lesson. When you are talking, you are NOT listening. “You can’t know too much. But you can say too much.” Calvin Coolidge

  5. Syllabus Rules and Discipline Policies and Procedures • Respect yourself and each other • A check mark is just a warning! It means stop what you are doing. Don’t dig a deeper hole by arguing. If you improve, it goes away! • Know the grade policy! • Knowing procedures saves us all time. • Ask 3B4 Me!

  6. Your Homework • Review syllabus and get strip signed. Return it tomorrow. • Start planning your Cover Page. It is due Friday. It must have the following: First and Last Name Mrs. Verdi’s U.S. History Class Period • Make sure you have a notebook by Friday. • Complete “Hello, my name is….”. Make sure you READ the INSTRUCTIONS! Please make sure I get your name tent!!

Introductions • The room has four corners that are identified as North (N), East (E), South (S), and West (W). • When I share an introductory question, each student will WALK to the corner that is beside the answer that best fits the student. • Practice: • This summer my travels took me: N – to a foreign country E – to another U.S. state S – around Florida W – to the grocery store

  13. Wednesday, August 22 Bellwork United States History • Turn in Homework (if finished!) due by Friday!! • Open agenda to today’s date and record your Homework AGAIN unless you finished it! If you do not yet have an agenda, use a sheet of notebook paper. • If you brought supplies, artifacts, or your spiral, please have them out on your desk. Welcome

  14. Ten Questions! • On the notecard, write your name, date, and class period in the top, right corner on the lined side. • I am going to verbally ask 10 questions. Please answer on the notecard. Do your very best. This will not be a grade but an indicator of hat you already know.

  15. Colonization Cover • Our first unit, after we discuss the Presidential Election, will be on Colonization. This includes a study of the early colonies like Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth as well as the later colonies by region (New England, Middle, Southern). • Your notebook cover will need to reflect this unit of study. The cover must also include YOUR name, the title of the unit, my name, and the class period. • Please be prepared on Friday to make your cover.

  16. Thursday, August 23 Bellwork United States History • Turn in Homework (if finished!) due TOMORROW!! • Open agenda to today’s date. Write down what you have NOT DONE! • You MUST have your spiral by tomorrow to set it up! • We NEED the supplies to set up notebooks!

Why Study History? • For this activity, you will need a sheet of notebook paper with the proper heading. • Prewrite Activity: Why do YOU think we study history?? 2-3 sentences • Activity: Recall – What is YOUR earliest memory? Interpretation – How do YOU explain ….? Application - How does … compare to….? Analysis – What happened? Synthesis – What does it all mean? Evaluation – What is the historical significance?
