BowTie Pro™ can be used to • Show the problem clearly • Highlight the Threats that can cause the problem • Display the Controls (barriers) to prevent the problem occurring • Describe the potential Consequences • Identify the recovery Controls required should the problem occur • Identify tasks and responsibilities • Assess the risks

  8. Creating a bow-tie diagram Step 1 : Enter the Hazard(top) and the Event to be prevented

  9. Creating a bow-tie diagram Step 2 : Enter the Threats that could cause the event to occur

  11. Assessing the Risk • The risk can be easily assessed by selecting a category, e.g. People, and then selecting an item from the risk matrix on the consequence screen. • The results of the matrix selection are displayed in the consequence box on the diagram • The categories and the matrix can be fully configured to meet your needs

The colour indicates the type of control Control Code Control Effectiveness The control description & Task Who is responsible • Controls also include details of: • The Task • The related documents • How it should be verified

  15. Creating a bow-tie diagram Step 6 : Enter the items that will cause a Control to fail
