Collection Development Issues Surrounding Korean Visual Materials
This study highlights the collection development issues surrounding Korean visual materials in U.S. academic libraries, based on a survey conducted from March 8-14, 2007. Participants included 28 institutions, revealing that 16 do not have a dedicated Korean studies librarian or a collection exceeding 50,000 Korean books. The usage of Korean films spans various disciplines, though only a few libraries actively catalog and promote them. The findings point to significant challenges such as limited availability, security concerns, and regional coding issues affecting Korean film access and cataloging practices.
