  4. Guided Math Guided Math is made of a variety of components: • Small group lessons • Whole group mini lessons • Fact fluency • Number talks • Stations: problem solving, skill practice, technology, extensions and more! • Assessment

  5. Envisions Our math textbook is called Envisions. It is found in the Katy Cloud. To access it, use CHROME. Your child’s log in information can be found on the sticker on the inside cover of your child’s planner. Envisions has review videos, extra practice pages and helpful materials for all of our math topics. Weekly newsletters will reference which Envisions topics correlate with our learning each week. We have Envisions consumable workbooks in our classrooms.

  6. Imagine (formerly TTM) Imagine is an online assessment and practice math tool that students can access through the Katy Cloud. To access it, use CHROME. Your child’s log in information can be found on the inside cover of your child’s planner. Imagine works with students on their level and helps them grow significantly as mathematicians. This is a researched based program that really helps!

  7. Check Ins/PAW Quizzes/Unit Tests Students will demonstrate their math knowledge in a variety of ways. Three of those ways are: 1. Check Ins: These are given periodically over current math topics. (OTHER GRADE) 2. PAW quizzes: These are given throughout the grading period over current and reviewed math topics. (MINOR GRADE) 3. Unit tests: These will be given at the end of math units. Review information will be sent home prior to the tests. (MAJOR GRADE) *Additional review maybe always found in Envisions online.

  8. Fact Fluency 3rd grade focuses on multiplication fact fluency. Students are expected to already be proficient in addition/subtraction facts upon entering 3rd grade. There will be weekly practices in class on Monday and Friday along with fact fluency strategy games and activities throughout the week to help students understand the facts conceptually rather than just memorizing them. Every 4 weeks, students will be assessed on the facts learned over that 4 week period (10% grade). The weekly newsletter will indicate the fact focus for the week.

  9. Homework for math/sci/ss: • Math WS given on Mondays and due on Fridays • Studying facts of the week • Reviewing/studying for tests as needed *HW for the week will be written in the planner and indicated in the weekly newsletter.

  10. Science Topics • Matter • Force, motion and energy • Earth and space • Organisms and environments • Health and body systems

  11. Eureka/Lessons/Learning Several times a year, students will participate in Eureka. It is a parent led hands-on science event that will correlate with our learning in the classroom. We will partake in many hands-on engaging lessons in the classroom. We use the 5E model: ENGAGE, EXPLORE, EXPLAIN, EXTEND/ELABORATE, EVALUATE We want students to become life long scientists.  Students will be assessed periodically with quizzes, labs, unit tests and more.

  12. Social Studies Topics • Citizenship and classroom community • Constitution • Adapting to the world around us • Government and elections • Communities past and present • Economics, entrepreneurs and Junior Achievement

  13. Social Studies Topics • Innovators • Heroes • Celebrating culture

  14. Social Studies Weekly We use Social Studies Weekly newspapers to supplement our lessons each week. Students will complete certain activities within the newspaper. Social studies is integrated within our science, reading and language arts curriculum as well. Students will participate in a Wax Museum Event in April. Parents will be invited. More information will come later in the year.  Students will be assessed periodically with quizzes, activities, unit tests and more.

  15. Materials Students will keep the following materials in the classroom: • Notebooks/spirals • Workbooks/textbooks/newspapers • WIP folder (work in progress) Each night students will bring home and return on the following day: • Planner • Husky folder

Seesaw is a great way to get a glimpse into your child’s day! Students love it when their parents comment or like the work they post online in their Seesaw journal! 
