What is an Injury? Harm or Damage that is done to some part of your body such as a wound, bruise, bite, cut, gash, scrape, laceration or broken bone.
How do you know if you are injured? Ask yourself…..Are you bruised? Are you bleeding? Are you swollen? Can you stand and put weight on your leg? Can you walk without a limp? Can you keep playing? Can you stay in school? Can you go about your normal activities?
What to do if you are injured? Tell an adult. Have a friend get an adult. You go to the office.
What is not an injury? Getting hit in the face/head with a ball during gym class or recess. Falling off your scooter. A hang nail. A floor burn. Running during recess and falling on the ground. Getting kicked during a soccer game.
When do you need to use ice? When part of your body is swollen, such as a sprained ankle, thumb, finger, faceor a broken bone.
Do you hurt vs. Are you hurt? No matter what the injury, you will hurt and be in pain. Eventually, the hurt/pain goes away. Time heals all injuries. If the pain continues or a mark is left, you have a serious injury.
