What Illness Had a Great Effect on People at the End of WWI? • A pandemic bird flu killed millions throughout the world (end of 1918 into 1919).
What Challenges did African Americans and Women face After WWI? • African Americans competed with returning soldiers for jobs (in the North). Deadly race riots erupted in the United States (Chicago and other places). The number of women workers dropped.
What Happened to the Economy After WWI? • Inflation began to occur after the end of WWI (rising prices for goods). Consumer goods were scarce and people rushed to buy what they could (creates rise in prices).
What Happened to the Economy After WWI? • On another note, the prices of farm goods dropped hurting farmers severely.
What Happened to the Status of Labor After WWI? • After inflation occurred, the wages of workers did not increase. In 1919, 4 million workers decided to go on strike. They wanted higher wages and shorter hours. The workers lost more strikes than they won.
