  4. Distinguished Lecturer Program • The Distinguished Lecturer Program provides means for chapters to have access to individuals who are well known educators and authors in the fields of signal processing, to lecture at Chapter meetings. • While many IEEE Societies have similar programs, the SPS provides financial support for the Chapters to take advantage of the service. • http://www.ieee.org/organizations/society/sp/dlinfo.html

  5. Distinguished Lecturer Program • The Distinguished Lecturers are • Nominated by all technical committees • Elected by the Signal Processing Education Technical Committee • Approved by SPS ExCom • Appointed by Chapters Coordinator • Input on topics and nominations are welcome from chapters

  6. Terms of Distinguished Lecturers • The Term for each class of Distinguished Lecturers is January 1 – December 31 • Each class of Distinguished Lecturers will be available for International Lectures until June 30 of the following year due to the difficulty of planning the international trips

  7. Eligibility for DL program • Signal Processing Society Chapters Only • Not eligible: • Non SPS chapters • Sections • Universities • Labs

  8. Eligibility for DL program • IEEE-SPS chapters in active status: • Held two technical activities a year • Filed the Annual Report http://www.ieee.org/organizations/rab/scs/Required_Reporting/ • If your chapter falls into inactive status, please reactivate it

Eligibility for DL program • The request to host a DL trip must be originated from Chapter Chair of record • The record is at http://www.ieee.org/organizations/society/sp/chapterspage.html • If the record is out of date, please update it by proper reporting http://www.ieee.org/organizations/rab/scs/Required_Reporting/ or notify the Society Office at sp.info@ieee.org

  10. To Request a Speaker Chapter chair should: • Contact directly the desired Distinguished Lecturer to set date and negotiate travel expense; • Contact Program Coordinator for pre-approval of expense; • Re-contact Distinguished Lecturer to confirm expense/arrangements.

  11. Speaker Expenses • For approved Society Distinguished Lecturers, Chapters may qualify for up to $1,750 per year from the Society Distinguished Lecturer Program subsidy in addition to up to $1,750 per year from the Society Chapters account to defray Lecturer travel expenses. • For speakers who are not Society Distinguished Lecturers but who are pre-approved by the Program Coordinator, up to $1,750 per year from the Society Chapters account may be available to help defray speaker travel expense.

  12. Speaker Expenses • Joint chapters are only eligible for the partial funding: • If a chapter is joint with another society, SPS pays only half of the expenses • If a chapter is joint with another two societies, SPS pays only a third of the expenses • Travel costs • Economic (coach) flight fare • Advanced planning and booking for lower fare • IEEE travel agency

  13. Speaker Expenses • Hotel • For the nights necessary to deliver the lectures only • Meals • For the meals of the DL only • Not for other people • Not for food/drink that may be provided during the lecture

  14. Speaker Expenses • The DLs will pay all the costs pre-approved by the IEEE/SPS Chapters Coordinator, and get the reimbursement from the society • The IEEE Expense Report is required for the reimbursement • All the original receipts are required for the reimbursement

  15. To better use this resource • Contact the adjacent chapters to share the same DL trip (especially for international trips) • Find a co-sponsor for the DL trip
