  2. Leading Up • God in the Flesh – Jesus • John 1:14 • Perfect, sinless life • Hebrews 4:15 • Hebrews 7:26 • Pays the price • Romans 3:25-26 • 2 Corinthians 5:21

  3. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. • Genesis 3:7-8

  4. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. • Romans 6:23

  5. The law was added so that the trespass might increase… • Romans 5:20a

  6. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. • John 1:14

  7. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin. • Hebrews 4:15

  8. Such a high priest meets our need – one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. • Hebrews 7:26

  9. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished – He did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. • Romans 3:25-26

  10. He had to rise • Jesus predicted it • Mark 10:33-34 • No resurrection would mean • He lied and sinned, that He was blemished and unable to take our sin, therefore we would have no salvation. • 1 Corinthians 15:14 • 1 Corinthians 15:17

  11. “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise. • Mark 10:33-34

  12. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. • 1 Corinthians 15:14

  13. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. • 1 Corinthians 15:17

  14. And He Did! • Jesus is back • 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 • Josephus

  15. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the twelve. • 1 Corinthians 15:3-8

  16. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. • 1 Corinthians 15:3-8

  17. “Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the gentiles. • Josephus

  18. He was [the] Christ. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men among us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day.” • Josephus

  19. What that means • We are loved • John 3:16 • 1 John 3:16 • He understands and cares • Hebrews 4:15-16 • We are saved by believing and making Him Lord • Romans 10:9-10 • We are free! • 1 Corinthians 5:21

  20. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. • John 3:16

  21. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. • 1 John 3:16

  22. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. • Hebrews 4:15-16

  23. That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. • Romans 10:9-10

  24. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. • 1 Corinthians 5:21
