  2. How Cub Scouting Works Scouting is Family Oriented Activities are intended for the whole family. You work with your son on his advancement award requirements. Many skills he will learn are family oriented. The Cub Scout Den Your son is a member of a Cub Scout den which consists of boys in the same grade. The den meets three hours per month and is led by a den leader (usually a parent). The den has a second den leader and sometimes a den chief (Boy Scout). Den meetings have games, crafts, songs, ceremonies, and lots of fun while working on their achievements toward their rank. The Cub Scout Pack Your son’s den is a member of a Cub Scout pack.A pack meets once per month - all Cub Scout families attend. The pack meeting is led by the Cubmaster, who is a volunteer. The pack meeting is the highlight of the month's den meeting and activities.Pack meetings have games, songs, skits, ceremonies, and presentations of badges that boys earned during the month.

  3. The Fun We Have! SCOUTING... AN AID TO PARENTS As a parent, you want your son to grow up to be self-reliant, dependable, and a caring individual. Scouting has these same goals in mind for him. Since 1910, we have been weaving lifetime values into fun and educational activities designed to assist parents in strengthening character, good citizenship, and physical fitness in youth. Scouting teaches family values... We know that boys do not join Scouting just to get their character built. Boys join because it is fun. SCOUTING IS FUN WITH A PURPOSE!

  4. Tiger Cub Program First Grade – Introductory Program Each boy/adult team is a member of a Tiger Cub den that: A. Has four to eight boy/adult partner teams. B. Meets at least once each month in a den meeting. C. Has one outing a month, called a Go See It. D. Attends the monthly pack meetings.

  5. Cub Scout Program • Second through Fifth Grade • Your boy is a member of a den that: • A. Has six to ten boys. • Meets 2-3 times a month at the den’s convenience. • Goal: 3 hours/month • C. Is led by two den leaders (parents). • D. Has games, crafts, stunts, songs, ceremonies at • meetings, and periodic field trips.

  6. Take a look at some of our activities… PINEWOOD DERBY Parent/son project building a race car made from a block of wood. Using set specifications and a great imagination, each car is unique. Family and friends come join us on race DAY! WEBELOS RESIDENT CAMP / CUB DAY CAMP Bayport Resident Camp, located in the beautiful area of Jamaica, VA, is the premier Webelos resident camping destination. Unique themes deliver a program that allows a challenging, creative, adventure packed learning experience. Newport News Park is the site of the Cub Scout Day Camp experience each year. OVERNIGHTERS Scouts and their families enjoy a great time at the Norfolk Zoo, VA Air & Space Museum, or the VA Living Museum. PACK FAMILY CAMPING Twice a year, our pack goes camping and the entire family is invited to attend, including siblings. We have fun activities planned during the weekend, time for den meetings, a pack breakfast on Sunday, with a devotional time as well. BIKE RODEO At this event, we get ready for the summer by practicing our bicycle skills, reviewing the rules of the road, and practicing safety awareness. Just to name a few…

  7. And a few Special Programs… SCOUTING FOR FOOD  Food drive held to benefit local food- banks. This great character building activity takes place in the spring each year. MEMORIAL DAY FLAG PLANTING  We join Boy Scout Troop 54 to honor our veterans by placing flags at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Hampton. BOYS' LIFE MAGAZINE  A magazine for boys and adults. Boys' Life has interesting features on Scouting, sports hobbies, magic, science, and U.S. history. There are also jokes, comics, and short stories. BLUE AND GOLD BANQUET Our annual birthday party for Scouting held in February. ACADEMICS AND SPORTS PROGRAM The Cub Scout Academics and Sports program is a supplemental enrichment program that complements the existing Cub Scout program. The Academics subjects and Sports activities allow boys to learn new techniques, increase scholarship skills, develop sportsmanship, and have fun.

  8. Character counts in Cub Scouts The Law of the Pack Tiger Cub Motto SEARCH, DISCOVER, SHARE The Cub Scout follows Akela. The Cub Scout helps the pack go. The pack helps the Cub Scout grow. The Cub Scout gives goodwill. Cub Scout Motto DO YOUR BEST Cub Scout Promise I, _______________, promise to do my best To do my duty to God and my country, To help other people, and To obey the Law of the Pack.

  9. Your Role as a Parent Cub Scouting encourages closeness to family. The program will give you opportunities to take part in activities with your son that you normally might not do. It provides a positive way for parent and son to grow closer together, and encourages you to spend quality time together. In this way, Cub Scouting is a program for the entire family, and your involvement and participation in our programs is vital to the program's success. FUNDRAISING Popcorn Sale- Popcorn helps provide the essential funding our Pack to maintain and expand programs for our boys - it helps provide the cost of the awards, programs, and adventures they joined Scouting for. Friends of Scouting Campaign- Colonial Virginia Council spends approximately $150 per Scout each year to deliver quality programming, professional support, newsletters, facility maintenance, leader training, insurance, and great outdoor experiences. Your child’s registration fee goes directly to the National Office and not to Colonial Virginia Council. PARTICIPATION Volunteer - Scouting operates through volunteer leadership whose goal is to help your son and his friends, and to have the chance to be a positive influence on the youth in your community. We ask that every family participate as a leader or helper. Your assistance will make a difference for the pack and greatly impact the life of your son. Attend Meetings Your attendance at the monthly pack meeting is important. You will get information about upcoming activities and events. Our pack program can be very busy and may be confusing for new parents. This meeting is a great opportunity to ensure that you and your boy are getting the most out of Scouting. Your attendance at the den meeting is more important. You will receive detailed information about upcoming activities and events at the den meetings. This is also when your son will work on his achievements and requirements to advance.
