  1. The Green WaveA fun and easy way to join other children and youth around the world in helping biodiversity Maria Wood EDC 601 – Shanghai http://greenwave.cbd.int

  2. What is The Green Wave? • A tree planting initiative that enables children and youth to make a difference. • It brings together students and teachers from around the world to raise awareness about biodiversity, and the need to reduce its loss. • It encourages participants to engage in local action, build friendships with other participants from around the world, work in local and international partnerships and learn about global issues affecting biodiversity. • Last year 60 groups of children and youth in 19 countries worldwide joined The Green Wave campaign

  3. Getting Started • Join The Green Wave campaign by signing up in their website http://greenwave.cbd.int • Do research and plan tree planting activities. Visit some suggested websites for some hints on doing research and planning of activities. • After planning, the chosen tree must be registered in The Green Wave website.

  4. Green Wave Action • The tree will be planted on May 22 at 10:00AM Quebec local time (May 22, 10 PM, Shanghai time). At that same time children from other schools from other parts of the world are also planting their tree thus creating a “green wave” that goes around the world. • Participants will upload photos and text to The Green Wave website to share their tree planting stories with others. • An interactive map in The Green Wave website goes live at 20:10 PM, Quebec local time (08:10 Shanghai time, May 23) and will show all The Green Wave trees around the world that will instantaneously create a second “green wave” * Planting activity can be moved to another date if weather and time becomes a problem and instead water the chosen tree at 10AM on May 22.
