  1. Characterization of scintillation blocks at Prague Vít Vorobel

  2. Outline • Clean room • Setup • Scintillators production • Some results

  3. Area Scheme

  4. Radio-contamination prevention • Clean room personal protective equipment (coat, cap, facecloth, gloves, shoes) • Dust, temperature and humidity monitor. • Sticky pad at the entrance.

  5. Radio-contamination prevention • Air Conditioning Unit, DAIKIN, Split FTXR-EV1B • Control of temperature and humidity. • Dust filtering. • Laminar Flow Box, Heraguard HPH 12/95 • HEPA filters H14, efficiency >99.999% for particles 0.3 mm. • Horizontal air flow. • We are getting an experience with dust. • Present level: • Flow-Box OFF →10^6-10^7 particles 0.5 μm / m^3 • Flow-Box ON → 10^3-10^4 particles 0.5 μm / m^3 • Manipulations with naked blocks to be done inside the Laminar Flow Box.

  6. Dust monitoring – Flow Box OFF • Class 9 ISO (<35 200 000 particles >0.5 mm / m3). • Proportions between different part. size measurements remain constant. • Pattern with 24 hours period. • No correlation with temperature or humidity. • Concentration of the tiniest particles independent on heavy dirty.

  7. Dust monitoring – Flow Box ON • Class 7 ISO (<352 000 particles >0.5 mm / m3). • Person without clean dress worsens. • Cleanness recovers in 3 hours. • Clean dress prevents worsening. • Something happens on Saturdays. • The dust level is the same everywhere in the room.

  8. Electron Source • Monoenergetic electron source - “Spectrometer” • Power SuplyTTi, PC controlled. • 2 magnet yokes (for 2 spectrometers), low hysteresis material. • 90Sr, 370MBq • Coil, shielding…tiny components expected form Dubna, transport permitting needed. • Spectrometer calibration • Si(Li) detector, 3 mm thickness, 20 mm2. • Si(Li) 5 mm, 75 mm2. • 207Bi, 100 kBq. • XY-table • Range increased to 45 x 45 cm. • Velocity 38 cm/min. • Control with PC serial port.

  9. Measurement • Black Box 100 x 130 x 130 cm • enough space for XY-table, “spectrometer” and 4 X-wall blocks with PMTs. • PMTs • 5 pieces of NEMO-3 5’ PMTs to be delivered from LSM. • Delta E - Polystyren 300 μm, 2 PMTs in “OR” logic • We are going to buy 100 mm PVT Eljen foil. • Signal readout – Digitizer CAEN V1720, 8 channel, alternatively Amplifier + ADC.

  10. Other material • Mylar – film 12µm 16,8g/m² métallisé Alu 1 face, width: 1185m • 1 roll of ~ 17-20kg 1000linear meter, MICEL Industrie • Teflon tape – Czech, French • Optical contact – Glycerol, Lukosan M14+M20, BC-630?

  11. Scintillation blocks production in ENVINET • - 4 X-wall blocks in Bordeaux (see Guillaume). • - Other 22 X-wall blocks are made, 10 blocks will be sent from ENVINET to Bordeaux that week. • - 20 Veto blocks should be ready by the end of June.

  12. X-wall block #0000 measurement(#0001, #0002, #0003 are similar) g- spectrum subtraction method DE – coincidence method

  13. X-wall block #0000 measurement Origin(s) of the difference must be identified. The setups must be as similar as possible. Urgent need for NEMO-3 PMTs and mag. spectrometer.

  14. Readiness for blocks characterization at Prague • Radio-contamination prevention • “Clean” Room 2.6 x 4.3 m, entry 2.6 x 1.2 m. • Dust, temperature and humidity monitor. • Clean room personal protective equipment (coat, cap, facecloth, gloves, shoes). • Sticky pad at the entrance. • Air Conditioning Unit, DAIKIN, Split FTXR-EV1B • Control of temperature and humidity. • Dust filtering. • Laminar Flow Box, Heraguard HPH 12/95 • HEPA filters H14, efficiency >99.999% for particles 0.3 mm. • Horizontal air flow. • We are getting an experience with dust. Present level: • Flow-Box OFF -> 10^6-10^7 particles >0.5mum, Class 9 ISO • Flow-Box ON -> >10^4 particles >0.5mum, Class 7 ISO • Manipulations with naked blocks to be done inside the Laminar Flow Box.

  15. Measurement • Black Box 100 x 130 x 130 cm • enough space for XY-table, “spectrometer” and 4 X-wall blocks with PMTs. • XY-table • PC control, range 45 x 45 cm. • PMTs • 5 pieces of NEMO-3 5” PMTs were sent from LSM to Prague last week (Christian’s talk). • Signal readout – Digitizer CAEN V1720, alternatively Amplifier + ADC. • Monoenergetic electron source - “Spectrometer” • Power Supply TTi, PC controlled. • 2 magnet cores (for 2 spectrometers), low hysteresis material. • 90Sr, 370MBq • Coil, shielding…tiny components expected form Dubna – paper work needed. • Spectrometer calibration • Si(Li) detector, 3 mm thickness, 20 mm2, 5 mm x 75 mm^2 • 207Bi. • Other material • Mylar – 12µm 16,8g/m² métallisé Alu 1 face, width: 1185m, MICEL Industrie • Teflon tape – Czech • Optical contact – Glycerol, Lukosan M14+M20, BC-630 BOTTLENECK !!! Other actions are linked to that!
