ePortfolios: Mapping the Future

This initiative by Liz Butterworth, Associate Director of Business Processes & Systems, aims to empower FE colleges to better serve individual student needs. By focusing on prior achievements, physical and learning needs, and aspirations, the goal is to create more informed teaching and support teams. By improving resource efficiencies and effective planning, we can enhance success rates. Key components include linking to MIS systems, ensuring seamless data transfer, and engaging potential employers through web services, ultimately leading to a more personalized educational experience.

Links into MIS systems • Current situation • Paper or email attachment for enquires and applications • Keyed into MIS systems • Checking and confirming with students • Additional costs and resources to capture data already held by some other organisations or agencies • Future • MIAP vision • Automatic data transfer between systems at the authorisation of the student. • Web services or portal technologies

  4. Links from MIS system • Work placement hosts • Student to send CV type information • Potential employers • Student to send CV in response to job advertisement • Employers to give selection criteria to FE provider for potential candidates to be identified

Student Record System Providers • Allow for data from 3rd Party software to be imported and validated • Agresso/Distinction Systems Limited • use a Data Translation Centre (DTC) to set up mappings for data sets e.g. enquiries, applications, enrolments, changes to biographicals etc. • Providers to offer data transfers in and out of the student record system
