  2. Why Solidworks? Fabrication Analysis Ease of Use Communication of Ideas Simple to Model Complex Geom.

  3. Why Solidworks? Fabrication Analysis Ease of Use Communication of Ideas Simple to Model Complex Geom.

  4. Drag and Drop SolidWorks 2-D Sketch { Save as .dxf } Through Cadence Without Cadence Obtain .cif File Obtain .gds file Use -Lab Unix Command “gds2tap filename.gds” Follow Directions on BSAC Webpage to import .cif file Obtain .tap file Open file in Cadence … for Fabrication Process Flow to Obtain Mask Files (.tap) SolidWorks 3-D Model FAB

  5. …STS process Sorry… Confidential Information Single layer mask files can be easily obtained using process delineated on previous slides FAB

  6. In SolidWorks Mate in Assembly After Conversion In SolidWorks After Conversion Doughnut Problem Still Working on better solution to the “Doughnut Problem”: ~ *.gds files require reentrant polygons Without re-entrant ploy’s With re-entrant ploy’s FAB For more info: http://www.artwork.com/pads/polygon.htm

  7. Why Solidworks? Fabrication Analysis Ease of Use Communication of Ideas Simple to Model Complex Geom.

  8. 5um 10um … Curve Capability Some Examples of Curve Capability So much for square Inductors Simple

  9. True Parametric Design Similar to P-Cells in CADENCE SolidWorks incorporates equation driven parametric iterations for all of your test structure desires. All Configurations from Same Part File Simple Example from dog-bone of Tang Resonator

  10. Why Solidworks? Fabrication Analysis Ease of Use Communication of Ideas Simple to Model Complex Geom.

  11. … to Analyze • Solidworks is Interfaces with many Add-On Packages Including: • COSMOS Works • Finite Element Solver • Optimization Packages Available • Dynamic Designer (Talk to Anita Flynn) • There are many more that have not been • inspected as of yet. Analysis

  12. Cosmos Works F A Simple Cantilever Beam Analysis h L b Analysis

  13. COSMOS Scaled Tests Type of test % error from closed-form solution Uni-axial Tension Exact Solution (<0.0001%) Maximum Stress in Cantilevered Beam 0.07% Error Point-Mass Cantilever 3% Error (but we did not Resonator account for distributed mass)

  14. Modal Analysis Modal analysis of a Crab Leg Resonator Analysis

  15. Sorry… Confidential information Please See the link to: Dynamic Designer (Powered By ADAMS) … For Dynamic Analysis Anita Flynn's ~ Dynamic Analysis Results Analysis

  16. Why Solidworks? Fabrication Analysis Ease of Use Communication of Ideas Simple to Model Complex Geom.

  17. … Communication Place your favorite photo rendering of your device here to show your Advisor/Manager Comm. Sorry… Confidential Design Information

  18. Some Issues • SolidWorks Functionality: • Processor/RAM Dependent • Great for masks for stepper • Complete Wafer masks cause the computer to bog • COSMOS Works • You must scale to mm to perform FEA (no good under 1mm) • LinkCAD • Doughnut Problem not solved as of yet…

  19. LinkCAD information • Visit www.linkcad.com • Converts (input and output) • CIF, DXF, GDS-II, GDS-TXT, Postscript • Costs at the University Discount • $ 450 LinkCAD (30 seats) • + $ 135 LinkCAD View • $585

  20. SolidWorks information • Two seats currently available • 1167, 5109 Etcheverry Hall • SolidWorks offers a 25-seat site • license for $3750 (Network License) • ($150 per seat)

  21. COSMOSWorks information • One seat currently available ~ 1167 Etch. Hall • Our package includes • Linear Structural Modeling • Thermal Modeling • Design Optimization • Initial verification of the necessary scaling steps • are positive.
