Movement 1: Structural Outline EXPOSITION Ist SUBJECT (a) (b) (c) (d) tutti – forte - triplets strings - quieter TRANSITION THEME (d) New material on top with in woodwind With (a) being played by strings underneath fanfare – tutti- forte (a) Modulates into G major – look for the F sharps! Finally ends on a D major chord, making a perfect cadence into G major For the second subject

  2. SECOND SUBJECT G major – the dominant of the movement Second subject played firstly by violin..then by bassoon Sequential theme CODETTA THEME (made of sequences!) Bar 81 Unusual modulation to C minor pedal notes Bar rest

  4. RECAPITULATION This is where the original ideas are restated (played again) like in the exposition. The main difference is that now the music does not move to the dominant. The transition theme now stays in the tonic –because the composer wants us to feel that we are firmly (strongly) in the tonic.
