Analysis of Movement I: Structural Outline and Thematic Development
This analysis delves into the structural outline of the first movement, focusing on key elements such as the exposition, transition, and recapitulation of themes. We explore the initial subject featuring strings and woodwinds, transitioning from G major to D major, highlighting notable sequences and modulations. The development section introduces a unique C minor pedal, while the recapitulation restates original ideas but remains firmly in the tonic, shifting the transition theme to C major. The interplay between these components creates a cohesive musical narrative.

RECAPITULATION This is where the original ideas are restated (played again) like in the exposition. The main difference is that now the music does not move to the dominant. The transition theme now stays in the tonic –because the composer wants us to feel that we are firmly (strongly) in the tonic. Transition themein exposition (in G major (the dominant) Transition theme in recapitulation (in C major (the tonic)
