The Pathway to Success Partnering for Success Initiatives: Energize downtown to create a great college town Realize the full potential of the Rural Health Innovation Collaborative Develop the neighborhoods around ISU Develop a professional development and conference center in conjunction with an alumni center Create a gateway to ISU and a connection to Riverscape Improve student housing to meet expectations and needs of today’s students
The Pathway to Success Master Plan Tenets Satisfy the functional needs of the academic programs. Modify the housing product as required to meet modern standards Provide on-campus athletic facilities that are competitive with the ISU peer group Support downtown Terre Haute with the intent of realizing a vital college town atmosphere. Support the redevelopment of the riverfront in downtown Terre Haute. Improving campus circulation systems particularly for first-time visitors. The gross building square footage for non-residential facilities is to remain at or below the current level. The number of beds for students will remain at the current level.
The Pathway to Success Initiative 1: Energize downtown to create a great college town • Team Members: Chris Pfaff (Chair), Center for Business Support and Economic Education • Maggie Slaven (Chair), Foundation • Brad Venable, Art • Scott Tillman, Facilities Management • Joshua Chapman, Student Representative • Megan Woodsmall, Student Representative • Pete Wilson, Community Representative • In order to gain a better understanding of the needs and wants of downtown stakeholders, a survey instrument is being developed to gain feedback from students, campus, and the local community. The survey will be administered throughout the summer. An inventory of downtown assets for future development is also being undertaken.
The Pathway to Success Initiative 2: Realize the full potential of the Rural Health Innovation Collaborative Team Members: Biff Williams (Chair), College of Nursing, Health & Human Services Dan Bradley, Office of the President and Provost Jack Maynard, Office of the President and Provost Diann McKee, Office of Business Affairs and Finance Mark Green, Office of the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs Jeff Edwards, College of Nursing, Health & Human Services Peter Duong, I.U. School of Medicine-Terre Haute This initiative predates The Pathway to Success strategic plan and was formally adopted in December of 2008. Many accomplishments have occurred to date including the adoption of a formal not-for-profit incorporated entity. Recently, Ratio Architects have been retained to assist in the completion of a facility master plan for the RHIC district.
The Pathway to Success Initiative 3: Develop the neighborhoods around ISU • Team Members: Kevin Runion (Chair), Facilities Management • Kevin Hoolehan (Chair), Foundation • Brian Hasler, Office of the President and Provost • Bryan Duncan, Facilities Management This initiative is on hold for the next six months.
The Pathway to Success Initiative 4: Develop a professional development and conference center in conjunction with an alumni center • Team Members: Gene Crume (Chair), Foundation • Charlie Potts (Chair), Student Affairs • Teddy Lenderman, Foundation • Bryan Duncan, Facilities Management Jennifer Cook, Hulman Center • Candace Harper, FoundationWhile this initiative is also on hold for the next six months, the initiative chairs have attended a Sports and Entertainment Facilities Forum this spring and plan on visits to similar type facilities that might inform the development of such a facility on the Indiana State campus.
The Pathway to Success Initiative 5: Create a gateway to ISU and a connection to Riverscape • Team Members: Kevin Runion (Chair), Facilities Management • Jim Jensen, Facilities Management • Scott Tillman, Facilities Management • Angie Lansing, Intercollegiate Athletics Bryan Duncan, Facilities Management • Sister Alma Mary Anderson, Art • George Stachokas, Library Pat Teeters, Facilities Management • With assistance from the ISU Foundation, the University has acquired a 16 plus acre parcel of property that will serve as the linchpin of future University development within the Riverscape area. Additional properties have been identified as being within the area of interest of the University. Ratio, an architectural and engineering firm, has been retained to provide initial schematic design for a track and field facility to be located within the Riverscape area.
The Pathway to Success Initiative 6: Improve student housing to meet expectations and needs of today’s students • Team Members: Mary Ellen Linn (Chair), Residential Life • David Stowe, Recreational Sports • Sue Sluyter, Dining Services • Brenda Monaghan, Residential Life • In early December of 2009 Capstone Development completed a “Fresh Eyes” study of Residential Life. The recommendations of the study included: 1) Position housing/dining to facilitate student recruiting, 2) Position housing to focus on 1st and 2nd year students, 3) Position housing inventory for the future. After an RFQ process, the University has entered into a Phase I agreement with Capstone to assist in determining a campus housing program best suited to meet the enrollment and retention goals of the University, working in conjunction with existing housing offerings. This includes analyzing sites on campus that would be most suitable for future housing, target market analysis, financing options, and site and building schematic concepts.
The Pathway to Success Summary Strategic Plan Goal 7 focuses on developing partnerships with the local community to advance the University. This is a long-term vision with a planning horizon beyond the initial five years as outlined in The Pathway to Success. Many of these initiatives may take 15 to 20 years to realize the full potential.
