Vision District 5420 For us to build on the foundation and legacy that has been laid down for us by supporting RI’s goals, strengthening the bonds between various groups which leads to conflict resolution, supporting the RI Foundation, increasing Membership and finally for every member of the District to become a Rotarian at heart.
Task District 5420 • Every local club catching the RI Vision to impact literacy, water, health & hunger and the family of Rotary • Every local club catching the vision of community conflict resolution following the relational model and Legacy of the Salt Lake Club • Every Rotarian supporting the RI Foundation with $100 during the year • Every Rotarian sponsor 1 new member • Every Rotarian participating in a Humanitarian project (District Project or another)
Club Goals: Final Report
Membership • Recognized new member sponsors “Sponsor Rotary Pin” • Ordered and passed out “Be My Guest” cards to encourage members to bring perspective members to meetings • Membership increased by 7 new members: • 2 women from Rotaract, 2 women from Chili Open charities, 2 men from the community, and 1 current Rotarian. • Maintained updated Membership Directory • Sent Membership Chair to Membership Conference sponsored by Rotary
Club Service (Public Relations) • Erect Rotary symbol in Sugarhouse gateways – donated picnic table with Rotary Sugar House symbol near Hidden Hollow • Continued to assess PR/advertising campaign to promote Rotary in the community – Sugar House Journal • Utilized electronic communications to communicate with members
Vocational Service • Classification presentations during business meetings – 2 this year • Held 2 Rotation days – one in Fall, one in Spring – Visited 6 Rotarian’s places of business and Khadeeja Mosque
Community Service • Increased SHRC support of and participation in the Chili Open • SHRC - Title Sponsor! • Raised $235,000 for 8 charities • Fairmont/Forestdale underpass cleanup project – on hold due to construction • Sent 5 youth to RYLA, including David Sanchez, our Youth Exchange Student • Increased participation in Dictionary Project: distributed 2,730 dictionaries to 3rd graders in 44 schools • Planned and completed 5 “hands on” projects for Chili Open charities. Completed 10 total community projects!
Community Service Projects • Cancer Wellness House mailings • The Sharing Place • Outdoor work • Indoor painting • SPLORE – cleaned and refurbished canoes • Hidden Hollow cleanup • Fall • Spring • Purchase and install picnic table with Rotary symbol • Salvation Army – bell ringing • Utah Food Bank • Thanksgiving turkey and canned goods donations • Donate and sort food
R.I. Foundation • EREY – 100% participation in the Every Rotarian, Every Year Campaign $290.22 per member (April 30) • 100% of our members contributed to the Polio Plus Campaign • 16 members if our club either became Paul Harris Fellows or moved up one level – raised $20,000 for the Foundation this year. 67% of our members are Paul Harris Fellows • Total Foundation Giving $20,797.00 (April 30)
International Service • Did not submit application for a matching grant, but completed 5 independent International Service Projects • Sponsored David Sanchez as our Youth Exchange student from Peru • Co-sponsored “Concert Quench” with the Salt Lake Rotaract Club to raise money for wells in Cambodia: • Funds collected from the concert totaled $46,359 to build 46 wells in Cambodia • Sponsored Leif Oldert for a Rotary World Peace Fellowship for 2009-2011
Independent International Service Projects • Delivered 280 wheelchairs to Nepal • Delivered dental kit and provided dental treatment for people in Nepal • Mailed grain seed to Eritrea • Participated in service projects in Cuba with Hispano/Latina Club • Sponsored Paula Brock, a member of Rotaract to participate in a YouthLinc service project in Kenya
Other • Weekly meetings started at 12:15 and ended at 1:15 (with any luck) • Held three Rotarian and Family evening events: Bowling, Westminster Basketball, Picnic in the Park • Committee Meetings were held at the end of Business Meetings – at committees’ discretion • Committee Chairs’ presented to the club during Business Meetings throughout the year • All guest speakers received a copy of “Frank Talk” to promote the value and mission of Rotary
Ongoing Projects • Strengthen Membership Orientation, Recruitment, and Mentoring Programs • Update and maintain new website to promote Rotary and our club • Update and maintain “Yellow Pages” on website to help members promote their vocations • Continue to assess PR/advertising campaign to promote Rotary in the community
District Conference The Rotary Club of Sugar House • Was honored with the Rotary International Significant Achievement Award for outstanding club projects addressing needs in the local community for 2007-2008! • Will sponsor Leif Oldert as the District Representative for the Rotary World Peace Fellowship (2009-2011)! • Wally Brown will serve as the District Representative to the Council on Legislation for Rotary International (2010)!
