Bridge sentences • Some transitions that we want to signal to our readers: • We are continuing in the same direction and adding new information. • E.g. “I had a wonderful time last night, and __________.” • We are changing directions or we are going to compare and contrast events or ideas. • E.g. “I had a wonderful time last night, but ____________.” • We are going to show the cause and effect of events or ideas. • E.g. “Because I had such a great time last night, I would like to __________” • The order/sequence/time of events and ideas is important. • E.g. “Two weeks earlier,” “A month later,” “When I was five.” • We are going to emphasize, repeat, or give examples of events or ideas. • E.g. “For example,” “This became clear when ______”
