  1. Assessing Parental Experiential Avoidance:Preliminary Psychometric Data from the Parental Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (PAAQ) Daniel M. Cheron Boston University

  2. Psychometrics • Internal consistency is moderate (α = .64 - .65) • Temporal stability is moderate (r = .68 - .74) • Validity is supported by correlations to measures of child psychopathology and other parent measures • Parents’ PAAQ Total and CSR (r = .20 - .22, p < .05) • Parents’ PAAQ Total and CBCL Total (r = .19 - .24, p < .05) • Parents’ PAAQ Total and PLOC Child Control (r = .35 - .38, p < .01) • Regression analyses indicate that, when holding parents’ psychopathology symptom report and parents’ own EA constant, the PAAQ predicts a significant amount of variance in child psychopathology on the CBCL and ADIS-IV clinician-rated severity level for child anxiety disorder symptoms. • Mothers’ PAAQ Total Scale variance predicts CBCL Total Scale variance (R2Change = .05, p < .05) • Fathers’ PAAQ Total Scale variance predicts CBCL Total Scale variance (R2Change = .10, p < .01) • Mothers’ PAAQ Willingness Scale variance predicts CSR variance (R2Change = .08, p = .01)
