John Ringling Towers Fund Grant Guidelines & e-Application Overview

The John Ringling Towers Fund provides grants of up to $5,000 to individual artists and organizations for exceptional original work and historic preservation projects. Winners receive a residency at the Hermitage Artist Retreat. Eligible artists and organizations can apply through the e-Application process. Final reports on the use of funds are required for grant recipients.

  3. Program Description • Individual Artist Award • Provides grants of up to $5,000 in recognition of exceptional original work. • Each winning artist will be awarded a residency at the Hermitage Artist Retreat in Manasota, FL. • Historic Preservation Award • Provides grants of up to $5,000 in recognition of historic preservation projects. • To be used for historic rehabilitation, including capital (bricks and mortar), preventive maintenance projects or national register designations.

  4. Who is Eligible? • Individual Artist Award • Performing Artist, Visual Artist, Literary Artist • 18 years or older • Legal resident of Sarasota County for one year • Historic Preservation Award • Not-for-profit organizations operating in Sarasota County

  5. Who is Ineligible? • Individual Artist Fellowship • Students enrolled in a directly-related degree program at the time of application or those whose degrees are pending • Applicants who have received a John Ringling Towers Fund Award within the last three years • Arts and Cultural Alliance board members and staff

  6. About the e-Application • Getting Started • Read all of the information in these Guidelines carefully, cover-to-cover • Attend an e-Application workshop • New e-Application via JotForm. Our website will have a link to this. • Individual Artist Award • Historic Preservation Award • Prepare PDF versions of the required photograph and other documents in advance. File size of each document MUST be less than 2MB.

  7. About the e-Application • Tips for Producing a Better e-Application • Focus on how the grant will “make a difference.” • Before you submit your e-Application, ask someone unfamiliar with your work to read the entire proposal and review the work samples.

  8. Scoring Guide • Read the Scoring Guide thoroughly prior to writing your proposal. • Focus on demonstrating excellence in every area that is evaluated. • Avoid addressing too many elements of your proposal that are not covered in the score sheet.

  11. e-Application Overview • Applications MUST be submitted by 5:00PM on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017. • Planning Guide included in packet. This will allow you to prepare your application before filling out the e-Application via JotForm.

  12. Final Report • Submission of an acceptable Final Report to the e-Application website signals payment of the remaining 25% of your grant award. • Be sure to send e-mail notification to rdenton@sarasotaarts.org once you have submitted the online report. • Due date is 30 days after completion. No later than Oct. 30, 2018.

  13. Final Report – Individual Artists 1) Describe how the funds were used to advance your goals as a professional artist. 2) Give a short, one paragraph description of the work supported in part by this funding, including comments about the artistic value of the work presented. (This description may be as simple as providing a copy of the "Program Notes" that were given to an audience, or a key passage excerpted from an Exhibition Catalogue, etc.) 3) Provide copies of any published reviews (online, or in newspapers, etc.) 4) If applicable, provide samples of how the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County was credited as a funder in the program guide, website listings, advertisements, or other published settings. 5) If there were promotional pieces used to advertise the work created (newspaper clippings, etc.) in which the funder was not mentioned due to space limitations, include a photocopy of these placements also. 6) If an Audience Survey or other evaluation tool was used, provide a sample copy of the survey and a brief, one-paragraph Executive Summary of the results of the evaluation.

  14. Final Report – Historic Preservation • 1) Describe how the funds were used to advance your historic preservation goals for the project. • 2) Provide copies of any media coverage of the project (online, or in newspapers, etc.) • 3) Provide samples of how the Sarasota County Arts Council and the John Ringling Towers Fund was credited as a funder in the applicant’s website listings, advertisements, or other published settings. • 4) Provide a copy of the original budget as it appeared in the application and a copy of the actual, final project budget. Provide an explanation for any changes between the original budget and the final budget.
