Close Up: History and Mission • Non-profit and non-partisan civic education organization founded in 1971. • Mission is to inform, inspire, and empower students to become more active citizens. • Over 900,000 student and teacher alums. • We welcome over 20,000 students and teachers to DC each year.

Trip Overview • Saturday, November 30th, through Saturday, December 7th, 2019 • 8 days/7 nights in Washington, DC and Williamsburg • Focus on current issues, government, and active citizenship • Meet students from around the country (AK, UT, NJ, CA, TX, CO, NH, etc.) • Looking forward to welcoming San Antonio to DC for their second Close Up trip!

Monday, December 2nd • Hotel Breakfast • American Political Values Study Visits • Jefferson • FDR • MLK • Lunch at Reagan Building and International Trade Center • National Politics Seminar- hear from a lobbyist, journalist, or policy maker • Smithsonian Institution Exploration • Hotel Dinner • ‘Current Issues’ – Learn more about an issue that interests you!

Security & Supervision • 24 hour supervision • Close Up Program Instructors are with the students throughout each day. • Night monitors are in the hotel hallways from room check through breakfast the next morning. • ‘Students’ Needs Assistant’ available to assist with sick students, on-call nurses, and special relationship with Georgetown University Medical Center. • All instructors have over 120 hours of training, criminal background checks, CPR/First Aid training, and a passion for education. *These are NOT contracted tour guides. • Close Up Emergency Hotline number printed on schedules/nametags and operates throughout the week.

Price and What’s Included • Total student price is $1,905, which includes: • Round-trip airfare from SAT (excluding baggage fees); • Academic materials and instruction; • Hotel accommodations; • Three meals per day starting with dinner on Saturday, ending with breakfast on Saturday; • All in-town transportation • 24-hour supervision including night monitors; • All admission fees; • Tips/Gratuities; • Secondary medical coverage and access to Georgetown University Medical Center; • Close Up souvenir backpack, water bottle, and group photo! • Not Included: • Airline baggage fees • Spending money for extra souvenirs and snacks • Lunch on Sunday • Travel insurance is optional but STRONGLY encouraged

Pricing and Deadlines • Total student price is $1,905 • September 12th, 2019 –$400 enrollment deposit deadline *The first $400 deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable • October 10th, 2019 – Final payment* *Cancellations after this date result in a 100% cancellation penalty, and all funds are non-refundable • You will need to get your participant ID and password from Mr. Stringer to enroll at CloseUp.org. • Automatic payment plans are available through your student account payment page or by calling 1-800 CLOSE UP. • Financial Aid is available! (based on free/reduced lunch program. See you campus sponsor for more information.) • Close Up is a 501(c)(3) organization - All donations can be tax- deductible.

Answers to Common Questions • Vegetarian option(s) available at each meal • We will have a pre-trip meeting before the trip to discuss specific flight/hotel info and what to pack • Dress code is casual on Close Up with a couple of exceptions • To reserve your space – See your Close Up sponsor and get your ID and password to access your account at www.CloseUp.org • Registering does not obligate you to attend, but it will give you access to our fundraising resources online • Roommate selection is done when you arrive in DC
