  3. Matthew 16:18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Jesus built the church. It is his. Men have built rivals to it, but without Christ’s approval.

  5. Acts 20:28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. This verse clearly shows the value that Jesus places upon His church, His people.

  6. The Importance of Christ’s Church • It belongs to Jesus, not man Matthew 16:18 • Jesus purchased His church with His blood Acts 20:28 • Jesus is the head of the church of Christ Colossians 1:18

  7. Colossians 1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Since Jesus is the head, he exercises supreme authority over the church, (cf. Matthew 28:18-20)

  8. Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

  10. Ephesians 1:22-23 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Again, the image of the church as the body of Christ is an indication of the importance of the church.

  12. Ephesians 5:23,25 (23), For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. (25), Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.

  13. Conclusion From these scriptures, we have seen how important the church is to Christ. Now, how important is Christ’s church to you? Acts 2:42-47

  14. Acts 2:42-47 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
