  3.                    Intro City of  Ember is a place underground that was only going to last 220 years long but instead it's been 241 years already. Two kids named Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow 12 year old kids try and find a way to reach the surface for the first time, listening to secrets that only the "right people" are aloud to know. Lina and Doon help the city get away from the coming darkness that will soon bring the whole city in such danger. While Ember is running out of food and electricity trying to be able to survive.

  4. Summary  At the beginning of the book there were these two kids named Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow. At the age of 12 they had to get a job to earn a living , they chose the job out of a small bag. Lina desperately wanted Messenger and Doon extremely wanted Pipework Labrador, instead they got each others, they talked together and switched jobs secretly. While Lina was doing her job she found a suspicious instructions but then Lina's puppy Poppy chews it up and Lina and Doon try and put these half words back together without any trouble containing the mayor and police. Lina's grandmother forgot the baby and the dog because she was too busy destroying the apartment. On Doon's first day of work he gets some old clothes and gets a station with his partner Arlin, Arlin takes Doon and shows him around because the tunnels are complicating. After awhile Arlin leaves Doon to go with her friends but instead Doon sneaks to the generator room but then the door was locked and waited till someone left so he could sneak in. When Doon got in it was so complicated and the man that worked it wouldn't tell how it worked.

  5. Summary continues.... In the middle of the book the people of Ember were all freaking out because of the black outs and know that the city is now in danger, so the mayor calls the citizens of Ember for important information meeting. The day after that everyone comes to the town square and the mayor starts to talk to say stuff but it was hard to understand. Mayor said he was trying to find the solution to the problem for the city . Everyone got angry and started to throw things at the mayor, Lina was upset of what was happening so she left also Doon and his father left as well. The next day Lina was collecting the ripped up pieces that Poppy chewed up, Lina thought it was a important message and came from the builders that built the city.Trying to put the letters back together. She went to the captain Fleery to talk about it. Captain Fleery didn`t believe her. Lina goes and finds her friend Lizzie, Lizzie Bisco and talks it about Lizzie really didn`t care. So Lina wrote a letter to the mayor but the mayor didn`t reply back. She tried to get Doon involved.

  6. Summary Ending At the end of the book Doon explores his work and people at work made fun of him. Doon lost his temper a bit too much. He found a place that said nobody could be able to go inside but instead he goes inside, he found a hatch but he couldn`t reach it. Doon wonders how the electricity worked. He goes to the library to search Movable Fire,he didn`t find anything and Lina came in. Doon was told to fix a clog at his work after he unclogged it he went to go to a locked door and went inside and saw a whole bunch of things. Lina had a whole bunch of messages about the black outs. Doon ran to Lina and told her about the secret door. A lot of people went to town square and wanted answers. So Doon and Lina answered there questions. Lina told Doon that someone was giving Lizzie Supplies. She heard a stuff about the mayor stealing supplies and a message for the mayor. Lina told Doon her grandmother died and Doon gave her a hug.Lina and Doon finally find a map that shows the way out on land and when they reached it they sent a letter saying how great and wonderful it is on the surface. It had plenty of food and lots of water for everyone, Light came from the sky instead of light bulbs wasting electricity, how it's way easier to live on here, and how they would have a better life.

  7. Reflection I think the beginning of the book was a bit boring to me, it didn't catch my attention as much . I felt like I didn't want to read anymore until maybe the middle of the book . If I had to rate the beginning of the book out of the numbers 1-10 I'd say 5 or 6 . But what kind of caught my attention was when Lina ad Doon 12 year old kids get a job and one wants Messenger and the other wants Pipe Work but instead they got each others so they traded secretly .I liked the part where Lina finds some weird letter and thinks it could be from the builders that built City of Ember, it could of been really important. I couldn't believe that Lina's grandmother was too busy destroying the apartment just to look for something and forgot all about the baby and the puppy Poppy. I think she felt a bit mad and frustrated and a bit worried about the baby and Poppy.

  8. Refection #2 I really enjoyed reading the middle of the book because it kind of caught the attention I'd like to read more and more. I would feel the same way like the people of Ember. If the mayor says the city is failing and is in danger but hes trying to fix the problem, and people were getting mad and worried and started to throw things at the mayor, I wouldn't want to throw things at the mayor but I would be very mad and worried. I liked the part when Lina collected the ripped up pieces that Poppy chewed up. I can't believe that the mayor, captain Fleery, and her friend wouldn't believe her or care about the important letter that could be from the builders and could save the city.

  9. Refection #3 I kind of felt bad for Doon because people at his work made of him but he shouldn't really loose his temper. I felt the same way when Doon was made fun of during work because I was made fun of a lot during school usually everyday but the difference was that I didn't loose my temper I just cried after school a lot. I thought it was cool when Doon found a tunnel or path way that said " DO NOT ENTER" but instead he went inside. I can relate when Doon found a hatch or something in the pathway or tunnel but couldn't reach it, like when I asked the teacher if I could get some of my papers on the shelf but I was too short to reach it so I needed help. I really liked the part when Doon was done doing his work he found the locked door (he was trying to get in) unlocked when he finally got in he saw a whole bunch of supplies and a living room with a guy sleeping. I never thought that the mayor would actually steal food and stuff, like hes a mayor he shouldn't be stealing!

  11. Theme and Inference  My Theme is Hungry and The Coming Darkness Inference: The part when Lina's grandmother was destroying the apartment just too find something, I inferred that it was way too important to remember the baby and puppy. The another part when the people of Ember got really mad at the mayor and started to throw things at him is that I inferred that the people of Ember was really mad because the city of Ember is now in danger and the city is failing, so they really didn't want to end dying because the city is failing things.

  12. Climax and Setting Climax: The biggest part of the book was when Lina and Doon found a map that leads to the surface and that could save the city. When Lina and Doon reached land they wrote an important letter to City of Ember saying how much better it is on land. Setting: City of Ember
