  2. The Finish Line • 100% of students scoring Proficient on the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test (ARMT) in both Reading and Math by the year 2014. • *Proficient means the students score a Level III or IV on the ARMT or AHSGE.

  3. The Starting Block • No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Passed 2001. • ARMT given to grades 4, 6, and8 2004. • ARMT given to all grades 3-8 2005. • Baseline goals established.

  6. Racing Requirements • Schools must meet annual measurable objectives set by SDE. • Schools are held accountable in 3 areas: Participation Rate, Proficiency, and an Additional Academic Indicator (Attendance Rate)

  7. Racing Requirements…. • Participation Rate – school must test 95% of students enrolled in each subgroup. • Proficiency – school must meet the AMO goal for the percentage of students who score level III. • Attendance Rate – based on the school’s 40 attendance report.

  11. Results on School Status Report • BMMS met the proficiency (academic) goals in both Reading and Math for all subgroups!!!!! • BMMS did not meet the Participation goals in the Special Education and Free/Reduced subgroups.

  12. Running to WinWhat will it take to finish well? • School must identify students who are not proficient and provide additional instruction in areas of weakness. • Schools must analyze data, identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop a plan to address the weaknesses. (School Improvement Plan.) • Students must be in school every day in order to receive instruction. • Parents must support and encourage both their student and the school to do their best.
