Geography • There are three main deserts in Saudi Arabia. • The first is called An Nafud—sometimes called the Great Nafud because An Nafud is the term for desert. • It covers 55,000 square km. • Stretching more than 125 kilometers south from the An Nafud is the Ad Dahna, a narrow band of sand mountains also called the river of sand. • Like the An Nafud, its sand tends to be reddish, particularly in the north. • The last main desert is the Rub al Khall • it covers 550,000 square km. • Beneath the deserts lie hundreds of caves filled with stalactites andstalagmites.

Geography • Saudi Arabia is located in western Asia and it boarders 7 different countries and 3 bodies of water • The Kingdom center • Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi • Marid Castle • One of the most famous man made features is the Kaaba • It is one of the oldest still active shrines • It was created before the Islam religion. • Muslims are supposed to face the Kaaba when in prayer • It is rectangular structure made out of granite • During the Hajj which is a Muslim pilgrimage there is about 6 million people at the Kaaba

  4. archaeology • 1871-The Ottomans take control of the province of Hasa • !912-The Ikhwan brotherhood is founded based on Wahhabism; it grows quickly and provides key support for Abd-al-Aziz • 1938-Oil is discovered • 1953-King Abd-al-Aziz dies and his son becomes king • 1991-Saudi Arabia goes to war with Iraq Some of the artifacts are: • A fragment of stone with a mans head painted on it. It is from first century C.E. and was found at Qaryat al-Faw • A gold funerary mask. It was found at Thaj, Tell al-Zayer and is from first century C.E. • A bronze head from a life sized statue. It is from second century C.E. and found at Qaryat al-faw • A glove made out of gold. Found in first century C.E. • A necklace made of gold and gems also from first century C.E. Found in a tomb

Political science / sociology • Saudi Arabia is a monarchy based on Islam. • The government is led by the king. • The people don’t get to vote, all decisions are made by the government • Education is open to every citizen in Saudi Arabia • The police force in Saudi Arabia is mainly controlled by the military • The government provides a national health care system for every citizen • The government of Saudi Arabia aims for every citizen to have a descent standard of living

Foreign companies pay 25%.
