  2. a description and explanation of Gunpowder • The inventions of gunpowder accidentally came about when Chinese alchemists tried to make an elixir of immortality • Scientists made gunpowder by mixing sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter (potassium nitrate) • The reason gunpowder explodes is because it burns very fast, and when it burns it gives off gases that are bigger than the original powder

  3. How did this innovation help/change China? • The Chinese were able to use it in bombs, grenades, rockets, and fireworks • They used it in the military • It helped them fight off their most formidable opponents • They also used it in religious ceremonies • The crackling made by the (small) explosions helped drive bad spirits away

  4. How is Gunpowder relevant to the modern world? • Gunpowder was one of the greatest inventions ever! • We wouldn't have any sort of explosives, guns, bombs, anything!
