  1. Using the Indistar® Web-based Planning Tool to Support School Improvement for Returning Title I AMO Schools Presenter: Ms. LaVonne Kunkel

  2. Purpose • To provide guidance for updating the Indistar school improvement plan • To review important reminders

  3. General Guidelines • If you are a Title I school(not Focus, Priority, or Warned) that has missed one or more Annual Measurable Objective(s), you must use Indistar® to create your school improvement plan. • Even if you missed only one AMO, you must include both math and reading in your school’s improvement plan. • You must address all subgroups in your school’s improvement plan, not just the one or two that may have missed the AMO. • Title I requirements specify that you must notify parents of your status as a Title I school that has missed one or more objective.

  6. Steps to Follow • Step 1 – Register School • Update your currentschool information. • Do you have a new principal? • Do you wish to assign a new • Process Manager?

  7. Steps to Follow • Step 2 – Provide School Information • Update your school’s demographic information. • Has your division undergone • redistricting? • Have grade levels changed due to restructuring?

  8. Steps to Follow • Step 3 – Form School Team • Update your leadership team • Does it include a diverse membership designed to meet the needs of your school based on the most current data? • Has there been a change in staff members? • Has a new division representative been assigned to your school?

  9. Steps to Follow • Step 4 – Assess School Indicators • The leadership team does not have to reassess the required indicators that were assessed last year. • The leadership team may select one or • two additional indicators to include in • the plan, not to exceed a total of five. • Any new indicators the team wishes to include in the current plan must be assessed in the “Assess” component.

  10. Steps to Follow • Step 5– Create School Plan • TA01, TA02, and TA03 must be included in the plan. • Return to “Create” to update completion dates, how it will look when fully implemented, and persons responsible. • Update each task that was not marked as completed in the prior year, adding steps to implement the task. • If you add a new indicator: • Review Wise Ways to understand the full • intent of the indicator. • “How it will look when this objective is being fully met” must be in the form of a SMART goal.

  11. Steps to Follow • Step 5– Create School Plan • Selecting the person responsible • Empower team members • Create new tasks • Tasks must tell whowill do what and when it will occur. • Tasks must be specific and sequential. • Words to avoid: regular, regularly, continuously, often • Include measurable terms: weekly, daily, monthly

  12. Steps to Follow • Step 6– Monitor School Plan • Remember: • Monitor each task monthly. • Be sure to date each entry. • Tell what has been done to achieve the objective. • Include roadblocks as well as progress. • Summarize results of discussion. • Include reflection and next steps. • DoNOT include specific student achievement data.

  13. Agenda and Minutes • Remember: • Meeting minutes do not serve as a substitute for entering comments in the monitor section of the school improvement plan. • Posting minutes to Indistar during your leadership meeting will save time and ensure accuracy of reporting. • When reporting actions/decisions, meeting minutes should not include names of specific individuals. • Agendas and minutes are subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

  14. Tips for Success • The leadership team should meet as often as necessary to ensure continuity and focus on the school improvement plan. • When assessing indicators that address formative assessment, do not include references to summative assessments. • At each meeting, have the task report from the Indistar site available to ensure that you are monitoring tasks on a regular basis. • When creating the agenda, assign specific tasks for review. • Post your minutes to the Indistar® site as you conduct your meeting. • Do not be too anxious to mark tasks or indicators complete.
